Inleiding
In de noordoostelijke hoek van de algemene begraafplaats van Sambeek staat het GRAFKRUIS van J. Grutters (+1914), waarschijnlijk daterend uit omstreeks 1914.
Omschrijving
Het ajour gietijzeren kruis heeft in het centrum een afbeelding van de Goede Herder, met uitgestoken rechter wijsvinger. De kruisbalken en schacht zijn verder versierd met engelenkopjes, een granaatappel, twee figuren met kransen, een vaas en florale motieven (wijnranken). Het kruis is gesteld op een hardstenen basement.
Waardering
Het gietijzeren grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het gietijzeren grafmonument. In the northeastern corner of the public cemetery of Sambeek stands the GRAVE CROSS of J. Grutters (+1914), probably dating from around 1914.

The openwork cast-iron cross has in the centre an image of the Good Shepherd, with outstretched right index finger. The cross beams and shaft are further decorated with cherub heads, a pomegranate, two figures with wreaths, a vase and floral motifs (vine tendrils). The cross is set on a hardstone base.
Valuation
The cast-iron grave monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic grave culture, and it is also of importance for the typological development of the cast-iron grave monument. It has ensemble values as part of a larger whole. It has been well preserved. As part of a coherent series of cast-iron grave monuments it is rare.
