Inleiding
Midden-19de-eeuwse GRENSPAAL, nabij het toegangshek van de buitenplaats Ter Horst. Z..K.H. Prins Frederik, tweede zoon van Koning Willem I verwierf in de periode 1838-1846 diverse landgoederen in Voorschoten (Ter Horst) en Wassenaar (o.a. Raaphorst, Eikenhorst, De Paauw, Backershagen, Groot Haesebroek, Wildrust, De Drie Papegaaien). Om de begrenzing van zijn omvangrijke landgoed aan te geven liet hij op de hoeken van zijn bezit grenspalen plaatsen, ter afbakening van zijn jachtgebied. Slechts enkele staan nog op hun oorspronkelijke plaats. Deze paal stond waarschijnlijk in oorsprong meer in zuidoostelijke richting op de kruising van de Horst en Voordelaan en het Oude Veenpad.
Omschrijving
Op vierkant grondvlak, bijna twee meter hoge hardstenen grenspaal met kapelletjes en geprofileerde afdekking en basement. Aan de ene zijde in bas-reliëf aangegeven 'HOEK', aan andere zijde de tekst 'Eigen jagt van Z.K.H. prins Frederik'.
Waardering
De GRENSPAAL is van algemeen belang vanwege zijn cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde door de typologische en functionele, ruimtelijke samenhang met de buitenplaats Ter Horst. De paal heeft tevens historisch-geografische waarde als onderdeel van een groter ensemble van grenspalen, de 19de-eeuwse begrenzing van het landgoed De Horsten, gelegen binnen de gemeente Voorschoten en Wassenaar.

Mid-19th-century BOUNDARY STONE, near the entrance gate of the country estate Ter Horst. H.R.H. Prince Frederik, second son of King Willem I, acquired in the period 1838-1846 various estates in Voorschoten (Ter Horst) and Wassenaar (including Raaphorst, Eikenhorst, De Paauw, Backershagen, Groot Haesebroek, Wildrust, De Drie Papegaaien). To indicate the boundaries of his extensive estate he had boundary stones placed at the corners of his property, to demarcate his hunting grounds. Only a few still stand in their original location. This stone originally probably stood further in the south-eastern direction at the intersection of the Horst and Voordelaan and the Oude Veenpad.
Description
On a square base, nearly two metres high hardstone boundary stone with small chapels and moulded coping and base. On one side indicated in bas-relief 'HOEK' (CORNER), on the other side the text 'Eigen jagt van Z.K.H. prins Frederik' (Private hunting ground of H.R.H. Prince Frederik).
Valuation
The BOUNDARY STONE is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural-historical value through the typological and functional, spatial coherence with the country estate Ter Horst. The stone also has historical-geographical value as part of a larger ensemble of boundary stones, the 19th-century demarcation of the estate De Horsten, located within the municipalities of Voorschoten and Wassenaar.
