Inleiding
In Dudok-trant opgetrokken POMPSTATION en snelfiltergebouw voltooid in 1940 (ontwerp 1939) met gedeeltelijk de oorspronkelijke installaties. Aan de noordzijde bevindt zich een aanbouw van recenter datum, in een vergelijkbare stijl. De installaties behoorden in de bouwtijd tot de modernste in hun soort. Het pompstation maakt deel uit van het complex van de Westlandse drinkwaterleiding.
N.B. Aan de noordoostzijde van het pompgebouw is recent(XXd) een aanbouw in vergelijkbare stijl, maar minder gedetailleerd aangebouwd.
Omschrijving
Het pompstation bestaat uit twee delen onderling verbonden door een gang. De installaties bevinden zich in het zuidelijke deel dat is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een met gesmoorde opnieuw verbeterde Hollandse pannen gedekt schilddak. Aan de achterzijde bevindt zich een lage aanbouw onder een plat dak. Rondom het gehele gebouw dat in een gele steen is gemetseld, loopt een plint in een grauwe steen.
Aan de voorzijde bevindt zich de entree onder een vlakke luifel die zich uitstrekt over twee met betonnen platen afgedekte gemetselde muren en een terazzo vloer. De daklijst van de gevel loopt door in de lijst van de verbindingsgang naar het noordelijke deel. In de zuidgevel bevinden zich moderne bedrijfsdeuren. In de uitstekende uitbouw, grote stalen kozijnen onder betonnen lateien. De gevel naar de verbindingsgang heeft een hoge rechthoekige schoorsteen die het overkragende dak doorbreekt. De verbindingsgang met plat dak is half open en rust op pijlers. Het tweede deel heeft lage kelderramen onder een betonnen latei en onder de dakrand stalen kozijnen met stenen muurdammen, aan de westelijke zijde uitspringend boven een aangebouwd blokvolume. Rondom loopt een houten lijst als in de luifel van het eerste bouwvolume. Op de hoek bevindt zich een iets lager bouwvolume met een portaal waarin een nieuwe deur gehangen is, onder een betonnen luifel. Aan de zuidelijjke zijde van het portaal bevindt zich een stalen kozijn in een uitgemetselde erker over bijna de hele hoogte, onder een kleine betonnen luifel. De andere zijden worden ingenomen door de aanbouw van recenter datum.
Interieur
De dubbele metalen glasdeuren komen uit in een betegeld portaal, waarna een rechthoekige ruimte met polonceauspanten betreden wordt. In de lage aanbouw liggen verdiept de zuiveringsinstallaties.
Waardering
Het pompstation is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde door de plaats in de geschiedenis van de regionale nutsbedrijven en tevens vanwege de industrieel archeologische waarde van de gedeeltelijk uit de bouwtijd stammende aanwezige installaties. Het is voorts van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde te weten de kwaliteit van het ontwerp en de Dudokachtige stijl waarin het pompstation is opgetrokken. PUMP STATION and rapid filter building erected in Dudok manner completed in 1940 (design 1939) with partially the original installations. The pump station forms part of the complex of the Westlandse drinking water conduit.
N.B. On the north-east side of the pump building a recent (XXth century) extension has been built in comparable style, but less detailed.
Description
The pump station consists of two parts interconnected by a corridor. The installations are situated in the southern part which is erected on a rectangular floor plan under a hipped roof covered with smoked, newly improved Dutch tiles. On the rear side is a low extension under a flat roof. Around the entire building, which is built in yellow brick, runs a plinth in grey stone.
At the front is the entrance under a flat canopy which extends over two concrete-slab-covered masonry walls and a terrazzo floor. The cornice of the facade continues in the cornice of the connecting corridor to the northern part. In the south gable are modern operational doors. In the projecting extension, large steel windows under concrete lintels. The gable toward the connecting corridor has a tall rectangular chimney which breaks through the overhanging roof. The connecting corridor with flat roof is semi-open and rests on pillars. The second part has low cellar windows under a concrete lintel and under the eave edge steel windows with stone piers, on the west side projecting above a built-on block volume. Around runs a wooden list as in the canopy of the first building volume. On the corner is a slightly lower building volume with a vestibule in which a new door is hung, under a concrete canopy. At the southern side of the vestibule is a steel window in a built-out bay over almost the entire height, under a small concrete canopy. The other sides are occupied by the extension of more recent date.
Interior
The double metal glass doors open into a tiled vestibule, after which a rectangular space with north-light roof trusses is entered. In the low extension the purification installations are situated below ground level.
Valuation
The pump station is of general importance due to its cultural-historical value through its place in the history of the regional utility companies and also due to the industrial-archaeological value of the partially original installations from the building period. It is furthermore of general importance due to its architectural-historical value, namely the quality of the design and the Dudok-like style in which the pump station is erected.
