Inleiding
Fontein in sleutelgatvormige vijver in de parkaanleg van het Wilhelminapark. De fontein is in 1921 vervaardigd naar ontwerp van architect Michel de Klerk in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School, ter vervanging van de oorspronkelijke rotsfontein uit 1892.
Omschrijving
De uit koper vervaardigde fontein rust op een rechthoekig basement, welk aan weerszijden is afgerond. Aan de voet van het object staat de tekst: "Aan burgermeester van Rijn, 1921, door de Venlosche Burgerij". Op de fontein zijn sculpturen aangebracht, welke zijn vervaardigd door Hildo Krop.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang. Het is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de stichting van villaparken vanaf het einde van de 19e eeuw. Het object heeft architectuurhistorische waarde als bijzonder ornament in de parkaanleg en als specimen van het oeuvre van architect Michel de Klerk.
