Inleiding
De bij de buitenplaats Middenburg behorende TUINAANLEG bestaat uit een park rondom het huis en een overtuin. Het park in landschapsstijl is door tuinarchitect Hugo A.C. Poortman in 1917-1918 gereorganiseerd. Deze was ook verantwoordelijk voor het tuinontwerp van de overtuin aan de andere kant (noord-westzijde) van het Westeinde bekend onder de naam Park Sonnenburgh, naar het voormalige buiten, dat zich naast het parkje bevond.
Omschrijving
Voor het huis een gazon, oude bomen en taxus; achter het huis een slingerende waterpartij met eilandje. De overtuin tussen de Prinses Mariannelaan en de Westeinde is eveneens parkachtig karakter met een aanleg, voorzien van slingerpaden, een smalle slingerende waterpartij, alsmede boomgroepen en solitaire bomen als eik en beuk. De oorspronkelijk aanleg van de tuin is in grote lijnen nog herkenbaar, maar toegevoegde struiken, bosjes en een kaalgeslagen plek aan de noord-oost zijde van het parkje doen afbreuk aan het geheel.
Waardering
De tuinaanleg is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische en de stedebouwkundige waarde:
- als onderdeel van een waardevolle, historische buitenplaats.
- vanwege de situering, als onderdeel van een waardevolle buitenplaats en als belangrijk deel en voortzetting van de vroeg 20ste-eeuwse tuinaanleg rondom het huis Middenburg.

The GARDEN LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Middenburg consists of a park surrounding the house and an outer garden. The landscape-style park was reorganised by landscape architect Hugo A.C. Poortman in 1917-1918.
