Inleiding

Description
Introduction
COUNTRY HOUSE Oud-Crailo from circa 1856, principal component of the complex of the same name.
Description
A country house of symmetrical main form, two storeys with rendered facades on a rectangular plan under a truncated hipped roof. The rendered and broken white-washed facades are provided with cornice mouldings and pilasters which are accentuated by means of the light grey colour scheme. Around the window openings are rendered moulded profiles. The roof is covered with hipped Dutch tiles, above the roof lights a zinc covering.
The northeast facade and the southwest facade have a comparable arrangement with a broad central risalit which is heightened by a broad roof structure extending into the roof panel. In front of the southwest facade is a veranda under balcony on four rectangular columns, which on either side via masonry steps on the sides provides access to the garden. Against the northeast facade on the right is a single-storey extension under hipped roof (circa 1940). The flower conservatory in the central axis of the southeast facade consists of a rectangular extension with semicircular termination under a dome roof. The house contains on the ground floor largely six-pane windows with shutters and double glazed doors. In the frieze below the roof line are in the window bays small square facade openings with cast iron grilles provided with four-lobed motif. The front facade (northwest) has three window bays with in the middle one on the ground floor the entrance, consisting of a broad panel door with fanlight in a porch framed by a rendered pilaster setting. In front of the door a sandstone step of five treads. On either side of the door two six-pane sash windows and on the floor above in the middle a four-pane window flanked by two six-pane windows. In the facade of the low extension to the left of the main volume a simple wooden door and four-pane windows with shutters. From the southwest facade four double glazed doors open onto the veranda, of which the two middle ones in the central risalit with clipped corners. On the floor above in the central risalit a double glazed door to the balcony above the veranda, provided with a parapet with iron railwork. In the side facades of the risalit both on the ground floor and on the upper floor narrow windows. The roof light contains two pairs of narrow round-arched windows. On either side of the risalit two double glazed doors to the veranda and to the balcony.
The southeast facade has three window bays with for the middle one the semicircular flower conservatory with large stained glass windows provided with flower motifs and in the middle a glass door that opens onto the garden. On top of the conservatory a balcony from which a double glazed door opens from the upper floor. On the ground floor in the outer window bays two six-pane windows and on the upper floor on the left a blind window and on the right a six-pane window. The central risalit of the northeast facade is articulated by four pilasters and between them narrow tall steel windows of the rear-lying staircase. Below these are two simple rectangular windows with glazing bars and a casement with cellar entrance. In the outer window bays six-pane windows on ground floor and upper floor. On the right the low extension with in the long facade three double four-pane windows with narrow fanlights and shutters. In the interior from the 19th century are preserved among other things the floors, panel doors and a stucco ceiling and from the conversion to design by Hamdorff from 1923 among other things the monumental staircase with a panelling of letter panels.
Valuation
The country house Oud-Crailo from circa 1856 is of general importance because of the architectural and cultural-historical value as a historically-functional principal component of the complex of the same name and as a representative example of a block-shaped country house in neo-classical style from the middle of the 19th century, attributed to J.D. Zocher jr., with some special additions to the design of W. Hamdorff. The country house also has situational value because of the distinctive location on the estate Oud-Crailo which forms part of the country estates zone on the northern flank of Het Gooi.
