Inleiding

Introduction

Former COACH HOUSE with HORSE STABLE and COACHMAN'S HOUSE from 1913-1914, forming part of the Duin en Bosch hospital complex. The building was presumably designed by Duin en Bosch's own architectural department. The building is now in use as a workshop and office of the garden service.

N.B. The subsequently attached wooden shed to the rear left does not form part of the protection.

Description

Building constructed on a U-shaped ground plan of one storey under a roof covered with red improved Dutch tiles consisting of several sections. The latter consists of a half-hipped roof above the projecting right section (the coachman's house), a larger half-hipped roof above the projecting left section (the coach house), and between both half-hipped roofs a gabled roof laid out in the longitudinal direction above the set-back middle section (the horse stable). The ridge ends of the half-hipped roofs are crowned by a spherical terracotta finial. The front facades of the projecting corner sections and both side facades are built up to the transom level of the ground-floor windows in red machine-made brick (the coach house in English bond, the coachman's house in half-bond) with sharp joints and above that rendered and whitewashed. For the rest the front facade as well as the flat rear facade is built in red machine-made brick in half-bond with sharp joints. In all facades with the exception of the left side facade are wall anchors at the level of the attic floor. The horizontally terminated facade sections have at the top a cornice-topped gutter on brackets. The windows are provided with hardstone drip moulds and courses of red brick.

The set-back middle section of the front facade has in the centre a double stable door with two four-pane windows, and on either side a six-pane horizontal window. In the projecting left section are two large arched double doors under segmental arches of red brick. At attic floor level the left projection has a double panel door with a four-pane window in the upper part of each door leaf. Above this door to the hayloft is a hoist beam. The front facade of the right projection has on the right two coupled windows with six-pane fanlight and on the left a panel door with a nine-pane window of yellow cathedral glass and above it a four-pane fanlight. At attic floor level the projecting coachman's house is provided with two six-pane dormer windows. The narrow left side facade of the coachman's house has on the lower right and halfway on the left a small window.

In the right side facade (S) is on the left a sash window with six-pane fanlight and shutter.

The symmetrical left side facade (N) has on the left and right two coupled four-pane windows between which a blocked double door under a segmental arch of red brick.

In the rear facade (E) are from left to right two coupled sash windows with six-pane fanlight, a panel door flanked by an eight-pane side light provided with a six-pane window and a four-pane fanlight, and an attached lean-to shed under a catslide roof with tiles as mentioned (the right half of the ground floor is concealed from view by the subsequently attached shed). At attic floor level the rear facade has on the left a six-pane dormer window and on the right a double panel door with a four-pane window in each door leaf. Above this door to the hayloft is a hoist beam.

The INTERIOR is still partially in the original state and contains among other things an undivided (hayloft) attic provided with a roof truss structure with beadboard above the former horse stable and coach house, in the latter a floor of red brick, and in the former coachman's house panel doors, a partially undercellared passage with a narrow staircase with a quarter-turn and a worked wooden handrail halfway, behind on the left a kitchen with a panel door to the middle section, and an attic floor clad with beadboard above which is a small loft.

Valuation

The former coach house with horse stable and coachman's house with associated interior is of general importance as a historical-functional component of the Duin en Bosch hospital complex. On account of the simple traditional design. On account of the group value.
