Inleiding
In de bocht van de Professor Winklerlaan gelegen voormalige DIENSTWONING (hoofdverplegerswoning)uit circa 1912, deel uitmakend van het complex van de psychiatrische inrichting Duin en Bosch. Het in de stijl van het Rationalisme gebouwde vrijstaande pand is vermoedelijk ontworpen door ÚÚn van ingenieurs van Provinciale Waterstaat in Haarlem. Opdrachtgever was de Commissie van Bestuur van het Provinciaal Geneeskundig Gesticht Duin en Bosch te Castricum. De vergunning voor de bouw van de hoofdverplegerswoning werd gelijktijdig met enkele andere dienstwoningen aangevraagd op 23 augustus 1911 en op 7 september 1911 verleend.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan gebouwd vrijstaand woonhuis van ÚÚn bouwlaag onder een zolderverdieping voorzien van een borstwering en een wolfdak gedekt met rode kruispannen. Tegen de linker helft van de achtergevel bevindt zich een serre; de linkerzijgevel (NO) heeft links van het midden een rechthoekige uitbouw waarboven het dakschild is doorgetrokken. De buitengevels zijn tot circa 2/3 parterrehoogte uitgevoerd in rode machinale waalsteen in halfsteens verband met snijvoeg, en daarboven gepleisterd en witgesausd. Het pleisterwerk wordt verlevendigd door strekken van rode machinale waalsteen boven de vensters en door een omgaande band van dito baksteen ter hoogte van de genoemde borstwering. Onder deze band wordt de verdiepingsbalklaag met schootankers in de gevels verankerd. Bovenaan de zijgevels bevindt zich een bakgoot rustend op geprofileerde gootklossen. De vensters zijn voorzien van hardstenen lekdorpels. De voorgevel (NW) heeft op de begane grond twee vensters met bovenlicht en links een paneeldeur met tweeruits bovenlicht. Ter hoogte van de verdieping bevinden zich twee minder brede vensters met bovenlicht.
De rechter helft van de linkerzijgevel (NO) is voorzien van twee kleine vierruits vensters: linksonder een keldervenster en in het midden een hoog aangebracht venster. Links van het midden van de zijgevel is het dakschild lager doorgetrokken boven een rechthoekige uitbouw met in de noordwest- en noordoostzijde een vierruits venster en in de achterzijde een glasdeur.
In de rechterzijgevel (ZW) bevindt zich rechts een smal venster met bovenlicht.
De achtergevel (ZO) heeft rechts een venster met bovenlicht en tegen de linker helft een rechthoekige serre met boven de gemetselde borstwering (metselwerk als genoemd) gekoppelde vensters met bovenlicht en in het midden (van de zuidoostzijde) een dubbele glasdeur met tweedelig bovenlicht. De serre is voorzien van een plat dak met een gering overstek op geprofileerde klossen. Het dak is toegankelijk via een glasdeur met bovenlicht links op de verdieping. Rechts hiervan heeft de achtergevel een venster met bovenlicht.
Waardering
De voormalige hoofdverplegerswoning uit circa 1912 is van algemeen belang wegens architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het ziekenhuiscomplex Duin en Bosch. Former STAFF RESIDENCE (head nurse's residence) from circa 1912, located in the bend of the Professor Winklerlaan, forming part of the complex of the psychiatric institution Duin en Bosch. The detached building, constructed in the Rationalist style, was presumably designed by one of the engineers of the Provincial Water Board in Haarlem. The client was the Board of Management of the Provincial Medical Institution Duin en Bosch in Castricum. Permission for the construction of the head nurse's residence was requested simultaneously with several other staff residences on 23 August 1911 and granted on 7 September 1911.
Description
Detached residential building built on a rectangular ground plan, consisting of one storey with an attic floor fitted with a parapet and a half-hipped roof covered with red cross tiles. Against the left half of the rear facade is a conservatory; the left side facade (NE) has a rectangular outbuilding to the left of centre above which the roof slope is continued. The external facades are executed to approximately 2/3 of ground floor height in red mechanical Dutch brickwork in half-brick bond with recessed joints, and above this plastered and whitewashed. The plasterwork is enlivened by courses of red mechanical Dutch brickwork above the windows and by a continuous band of the same brickwork at the height of the aforementioned parapet. Below this band the floor beam layer is anchored in the facades with tie anchors. At the top of the side facades is a gutter resting on profiled gutter brackets. The windows are fitted with stone lintels. The front facade (NW) has on the ground floor two windows with fanlights and on the left a panel door with two-light fanlight. At the level of the first floor are two narrower windows with fanlights.
The right half of the left side facade (NE) is fitted with two small four-light windows: on the lower left a basement window and in the middle a high-set window. To the left of the centre of the side facade the roof slope is continued lower above a rectangular outbuilding with a four-light window on the northwest and northeast sides and a glass door on the rear side.
In the right side facade (SW) on the right is a narrow window with fanlight.
The rear facade (SE) has on the right a window with fanlight and against the left half a rectangular conservatory with above the masonry parapet (brickwork as described) coupled windows with fanlights and in the centre (of the southeast side) a double glass door with two-part fanlight. The conservatory is fitted with a flat roof with slight overhang on profiled brackets. The roof is accessible via a glass door with fanlight on the left at first floor level. To the right of this the rear facade has a window with fanlight.
Valuation
The former head nurse's residence from circa 1912 is of general importance for its architectural and cultural-historical value as a historically-functional component of the Duin en Bosch hospital complex. For its architectural design in the Rationalist style. For its ensemble value.
