Omschrijving
Inleiding
VILLA (Lingebeek), gebouwd in 1929 door architect A.H. Wegerif (1888-1963).
Waardering
VILLA, gebouwd 1929 door architect A.H. Wegerif.

Description
Introduction
VILLA (Lingebeek), built in 1929 by architect A.H. Wegerif (1888-1963). It was designed for engineer W.G. Lingbeek of the Chamotte Unie. The house is situated on the south side of the Koppelsedijk and has its front facade facing the village of Geldermalsen. To the north of the Koppelsedijk flows the Linge. The house is surrounded by a large garden, which was designed and laid out during the construction period by landscape architect Copijn. To the south of the house is a ditch. In the garden of Lingebeek there are said to be several old trees from the old estate Ravenstein.
The architect Ahasverus Hendrikus Wegerif was a nephew of Chris Wegerif (1859-1920), who is known among other things for his many buildings in Apeldoorn and his furniture and interior designs for the 'Arts and Crafts' shop located on the Kneuterdijk in The Hague. A.H. Wegerif lived in Apeldoorn from 1911 to 1925 and subsequently moved to Wassenaar. Unlike his uncle, he produced few furniture designs but, in addition to designing buildings, occupied himself with, among other things, making film sets. In addition to houses in Apeldoorn, he also designed houses in, for example, The Hague (apartment building 'Willemspark' on the Zeestraat) and in the municipality of Geldermalsen. At short distances from each other he built three properties here, two of which were directly related to the Chamotte Unie (Lingedijk 1 and Koppelsedijk 2). He also built the property Rijksstraatweg 32 for a prospective notary.
Description
The house has a mainly L-shaped floor plan and is built in brick (Flemish bond); in the two building volumes it comprises one and two storeys and an attic under a composite roof. The substantially overhanging roof, which is covered with Norwegian slate in German pattern, is fitted with gutters. The main mass, which is oriented north-south, comprises two storeys. On the front facade side, this roof resembles a simple hipped roof, but on the rear it is characterized by setbacks, recessed sections and extensions. The roof planes are interrupted by wall surfaces containing a series of windows or a broad roof dormer with a strip of windows. On some places in the facades there are corner elements executed in concrete. Almost all windows, which are relieved by a lintel or relieving brick, are executed in steel and fitted with glazed tile sills. Striking is the stairwell section which rises as a square tower above the roof ridge and ends in a small platform from which the entire surroundings can be surveyed. In the rear slope there is one free-standing, high-built chimney.
The FRONT FACADE has on the ground floor three storefronts set in steel frames which are accentuated by walls that are set at an angle to the facade. At the far left is a triangular concrete canopy above the storefront. On the upper floor, on either side of two 3-light steel windows placed in the centre, there is a 2-light steel window. All four connect directly to the roof line. The terrace present is tiled with terracotta tiles and via a number of steps the lower garden can be reached. In one of the wall sections is a date stone placed bearing the text: "THIS STONE WAS / LAID BY / TITA AND BEPJE / LINGBEEK / 11 JUNE 1929".
The LEFT SIDE FACADE has on the right on the ground floor a broad three-light window and on the upper floor a three-light window as in the front facade. The left part of the facade has only one storey in which is located a composite corner window with a leaded-light window separated by a small column executed in concrete. Above this single-storey section is a balcony surrounded by a closed balustrade.
The REAR FACADE originally served as the entrance facade. Here on the right is the aforementioned part of the corner window. On the left is the original front door with leaded-light windows with a central mullion. Above this entrance, the facade is characterized by a row of small square storey-height windows located below the roof edge which extends across the entire width of the facade. In the roof slope there is also a row of these windows. To the left of the door is a leaded-light window set diagonally to light the hall. Adjoining this is in the single-storey building volume a four-light window with above the side windows a fanlight executed as a pivoting window. The short west side of the single-storey extension which houses, among other things, the garage contains a strip of windows with small square windows below the roof line. The north side contains the (modern) garage door.
The RIGHT SIDE FACADE has, in the location of the front house section, the same arrangement as the left side facade. On the ground floor there are several plant boxes built in brick. To the right of these is the stairwell which cuts through the roof planes and ends in a viewpoint surrounded by a closed balustrade. The 'tower' has a built-out chimney on its rear side. The stairwell section is lit on this side by two narrow light slots with leaded-light infill. Here there is also a second entrance section, the actual rear entrance, which also provides access to the small hallway. The INTERIOR of the residential house has remained entirely intact. The spaces on the ground floor are grouped around a small central pentagonal hall which, like the hall at the property Lingedijk, is clad in natural stone. The rooms have wooden floors, fireplaces, built-in cupboards and steel window units. All panelled doors have been preserved. In the living room is a fireplace with an original bench bed on either side. At various places there are leaded-light windows. A stairs with winding treads leads to the upper floor. Beneath the house are three cellars.
Valuation
VILLA, built 1929 by architect A.H. Wegerif.
- Of architectural-historical importance as a good example of a villa from the 1920s of the 20th century that has been well preserved in its main form and material use. The application of steel windows as well as the leaded-light windows and interior arrangement are characteristic of the Wrightian style in which the villa was executed. The house is moreover of importance because of its balanced design with a marked orientation to the south.
- Of urban-planning importance because of its free-standing location on the south side of the Koppelsedijk among other villa development it possesses ensemble value. The garden laid out around 1930 by landscape architect Copijn reinforces the monumental value of this building.
- Of cultural-historical importance as an example of a development of villa construction in the Netherlands and as an expression of a social-cultural development of a new elite that preferentially settled outside urban centres in a fine setting.
