The register's description

Gentleman's house (A), laid out on a composite plan of two rectangles placed against each other, of which the rear (oldest and westerly situated) is longer. The front building comprises one storey with a two-storey central section and an attic. The rear building comprises one and a half storeys with an attic. Both building volumes, constructed in brick (Flemish bond), are covered by gabled roofs, laid with smothered crossed pantiles. These crossed pantiles are left-lapping on the rear building and right-lapping on the front building. In the front gable of the building section facing the dike, the raised gable in the middle is covered by an abutting compressed gabled roof. The end gables are all provided with new wind verges with a small tilework. The roofs are all equipped with moulded brick gutters. At the ridge ends of front and rear buildings there are chimneys with decorative brickwork in yellow facing brick, which on the front building are provided with a built-up smoke plate and on the rear building are crowned with ceramic chimney pots.

The windows and frames in the gables display a variety of straight-headed (without relieving arch) and arched types with sash, turning, or fixed frames. Most frames rest on sandstone sills, only in the rear gable and in the side gables are wooden sills present.

The FRONT FACADE is determined by the two-storey, slightly projecting, central section and the adjoining veranda (later conservatory), both of which are three window bays wide. The sides each have two window bays. All frames are executed as T-sash windows, only the windows on the first floor of the central section are slightly arched (1½ brick).

The original veranda with zinc panel roof and decoratively carved cornice, rests on a low plinth wall and is supported by cast-iron (corner) posts between which is a low iron balustrade with elegant motifs. Two of the three bays were subsequently closed in with glass for a conservatory with diamond-shaped glazing bars. In the third bay is the panelled front door with small pane under a fanlight, accessible via a sandstone stair and landing (terrazzo). In the balustrade of the stairs, the motif of the veranda's balustrade is repeated. The central section of the facade is terminated with a principal cornice containing the name of the house 'HUIZE "DE DREEF", followed by a pediment. An oval window appears in the unplastered gable field. On the left side of the facade is a cellar (turning) window.

The LEFT SIDE GABLE consists of two offset end gables of the building components. The front building is set back in relation to the rear building. Gutter heights and roof pitches are at the same level. A box gutter between both roofs provides drainage of rainwater to the water pump located in front of the gable. The gable of the rear building (left) is executed blind with the exception of a cellar light. The right side of the projecting building component, which stands at right angles to the end gable of the front building, contains on the ground floor a 2x(1+2)-pane sash window under a 1½ brick stretch and above a divided turning window. In the end gable of the front building on the left is one 6-pane sash window placed under a stretch, and on the first floor a later cut-in identical sash window as described above is present under a triangular divided fanlight. The window is closed off by a herringbone arch consisting of a header course. Under the slanting sides of the roof there are partial noggings. From the run of the noggings it can be deduced that the roof formerly rose more steeply.

Parallel to the left side gable is the approximately one-metre-high garden wall, closed off by a saddle-back, which forms the boundary with the adjacent gravel-laid drive. The wall continues for several tens of metres in the direction of the dike and bends slightly in a northerly direction along the Dorpsdijk. On the dike there is an entrance gate with double swing doors, with an adjacent smaller (pedestrian) swing gate to close off the aforementioned drive. The revolving (spindle) gates are furnished with fleurs-de-lis and hung between cast-iron columns.

The REAR GABLE of the residential building has two storeys on the left and one and a half storeys on the right. The left gable section has a kitchen with a lowered floor, visible in the gable by two low-placed 2x(1+1)-pane windows with shutters. Separated by a cornice band across half the width of the gable, there are on the first floor two arched six-pane windows. On the right at ground level is an entrance behind a flat-roofed porch (clog shed) consisting of diagonally applied beaded board sections. On the two sides is a multi-pane small window. The clamped front door leads to a sandstone step going down. In the central axis of the gable is an oval window in two storeys, which in the pane below contains a cross-shaped glazing bar arrangement and above is closed off. To the right adjoins a (not original?) wooden porch on columns, set on pedestals. The false double door under a fanlight has on either side of the mullion a pane with grille, cushion panels and diamond heads. The door frame rests on sandstone skewbacks and matching sill. On the right are two six-pane sash windows of the standard type. Above the three gable openings at ground level are three divided attic windows. The simple wooden frieze was later placed against the gable. All the gable openings mentioned here are closed off arched under 1½ brick stretch.

The RIGHT SIDE GABLE consists of two adjacent end gables. In the front building, on the first floor, a modern balcony with doors replaces a window. In the section of the rear building there is a cellar window.

In the INTERIOR there are several valuable interior components including interior (folding) shutters for the ground-floor windows, all panelled doors are preserved, and a fireplace. In the kitchen, equipped with a beam ceiling, there is an old fireplace beam and (bread) baking oven. In the front room there is a richly worked marble fireplace mantel with classical motifs. On the landing of the first floor is a light shaft with mousseline glass. In one of the two rear rooms, between which are wooden sliding doors, there is an original fireplace beam with carved work with keystones. The house is L-shaped with a cellar, containing three barrel-vaulted (pantry and stoke-hole) cellars, of which the long arm extends transversely beneath front and rear buildings, and the short arm runs parallel to the rear building.

Valuation

GENTLEMAN'S HOUSE with GARDEN WALL.

- Of architectural-historical importance as a good and intact example of a house with a long building history, valuable because of the cellars, the phased construction visible in the house with elements from neoclassicism.

- Of town-planning importance because of its elevated location on the elongated plot with deep ornamental garden between two parallel roads, typical for this elongated estuarine village. The house forms with the other components a complex that is part of a historically grown landscape area.

- Of cultural-historical importance. Together with the adjoining buildings, the property presents a characteristic appearance and is determinative for maintaining this historically developed situation visible.
