Omschrijving
Waardering
De HISTORISCHE PARK- EN TUINAANLEG is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de integratie van de oorspronkelijke achttiende-eeuwse formele aanleg en de latere (achttiende en negentiende-eeuwse) landschappelijke aanleg tot een fraai geheel;

Description
Description of the HISTORICAL PARK AND GARDEN LAYOUT (2):
Historical park layout of the complex historic country estate Hilverbeek. Nothing is known of the oldest seventeenth-century layout. After the construction of the new house 1725-1730, a formal garden was also laid out in the immediate vicinity of the house, which occupied approximately the middle part of the plot. The layout was bounded by two avenues across the width of the plot. The farmhouse Stofbergen was surrounded by a rectangular tree border. Following this, the plot was gradually subdivided by means of transverse avenues into five plots of varying dimensions. This rhythm can still be found in the layout, in the form of (remnants of) transverse avenues and the avenues along the northern and southern boundaries. The large open pastures on the east and west sides also date from the eighteenth century. The pasture in front of the farmhouse Stofbergen is adorned by two monumental solitary oak trees. In the second half of the eighteenth century, work began to realize a landscape layout within this formal system. Initially these were still small-scale elements within the formal layout. A winding path in the Kerkebos (behind the church) dates from this earliest period of landscaping. Between 1826 and 1828 the large landscape layout to the north of the house was created with a substantial water feature with a natural course and an island. The hilly landscape was also created. This created some fine sight lines from the house. There were both winding waterways and winding paths through the layout. The small organically formed open spaces to the east of the Moslaan are now barely recognizable. The relocation of the access to the house, from the central axis to the east side, completed the phase of landscaping in the immediate vicinity of the house. No architect is known for this plan either. Around 1830, work began on the development of the so-called Zanderij to the east of the original plot. A new layout was subsequently realized on this, of which especially the large water feature with island remains. The farmhouse that stood here was demolished and there are now two modern villas (last quarter of the twentieth century). Around 1920 J.W. Hanrath designed the terrace with brick balustrade between the house and the pond as well as, in all likelihood, the retaining wall between house and terrace.
Valuation
The HISTORICAL PARK AND GARDEN LAYOUT is of general importance:
- because of the integration of the original eighteenth-century formal layout and the later (eighteenth and nineteenth-century) landscape layout into a beautiful whole;
- because of the functional spatial coherence of all components of the country estate within the layout.
