Omschrijving
Inleiding
OUËNDAG (1861-1932) in 'Um 1800'-stijl.

Description
Introduction
VILLA 'Oud Vossenhol' built in 1912 on behalf of Amsterdam banker Joan Nachenius designed by architect B.J. OUËNDAG (1861-1932) in 'Um 1800' style. The villa is situated on the west side of the Edeseweg within the built-up area of Bennekom in the municipality of Ede. The garden surrounding the elevated villa was originally many times larger. Adjoining the villa is a terrace. Two brick short flights of steps on the south and west sides provide access to the lower-lying garden. The flight of steps on the south side is flanked on both sides by a profiled brick pillar constructed in stretcher bond and topped with a profiled natural stone coping. In the natural stone imposts stand 'oud' on the left and 'vossenhol' on the right.
From 1912 to 1938 the villa was privately occupied, including by Mr. Nachenius, from 1927 by Matth. Meiske from Johannesburg, who among other things had the stained glass window with the image of the Union Buildings in Pretoria installed in the hall. Subsequently, after an auction, the property came into the hands of the Stichting Ziekenverpleging van de Commanderij Nederland der Johanniterorde in Bennekom. With this, the function changes from residential house to hospital. For the purpose of this function, a lift was installed in the property and a number of doors were replaced with wider ones. After the construction of a regional hospital in Bennekom in 1957, the villa was used from 1962 to 1982 as a family substitute home for young disabled women. In the following five years the villa had no clear purpose. Since 1987 the villa has again been privately occupied in combination with office space.
