Omschrijving
Inleiding
Waardering

Description
Introduction
SERVANTS' QUARTERS built in the years 1920-1925 according to a design from 1920 by A.J. KROPHOLLER, commissioned by the couple Kröller-Müller. The building is one of the so-called 'Five Dwellings' that the architect built in Hoenderloo for staff employed on the estate. The building is virtually identical to Otterloseweg 310 and there is a town planning layout whereby both buildings are placed mirror-symmetrically to each other along the road. The building stands with its long front facade (veranda facade) on the Otterloseweg. The house is surrounded by a garden with gravel paths to and around the house. In 1950 a wing was added in style to the rear facade of the building.
Description
The SERVANTS' QUARTERS is built on a rectangular floor plan, with a cross-wing added in 1950 against the rear facade, in line with the front facade. The building has one storey and an attic floor under a half-hipped roof with the ridge direction parallel to the front facade. The single-storey cross-wing has an attached hipped roof with a lower ridge height. The roofs are provided with thatch and ridged hips at the ridge. On the ridge and in the former rear facade (at the height of the extension) there are chimneys.
The facades with tuff masonry are built in light brown brick in Norwegian bond. Misshapen bricks are incorporated in the masonry. Within the facades, multi-pane windows are used, with sills and lintels running outside the window mullions. At the windows, doors and shutters the connections are left visible. In the FRONT FACADE on the left there is a veranda with two rectangular openings and a round-arch passage that leads to the entrance of the house. The roof is extended above this. In the wall there is a small window, opening six-pane French doors flanked by two four-pane sidelights and the front door of the building. On the right is a basement light with shutter and above it a coupled four-pane attic window with shutters. The RIGHT SIDE FACADE has on the first storey on the left a window set high in the facade, a door with sidelight with shutter, above a basement light. The door is accessible via a flight of steps with a landing. On the right is a coupled four-pane window with shutters. The gable top consists of whitewashed roughcast sections and is provided with a three-light window with four-pane opening windows. The LEFT SIDE FACADE has from left to right a square small window placed high in the storey with shutter, two coupled six-pane windows with shutters and a wide 15-pane window (from the veranda). The entire second storey is provided with whitewashed roughcast sections and under the half-hipped end there is a window with two opening four-pane windows. In the later extension there is a three-light window with six-pane windows. The REAR FACADE has to the left of the junction of the extension a door with on the left a four-pane sidelight with shutter and a four-pane window with shutter. The right side facade of the extension has a door and the rear facade of the extension a three-light window with six-pane windows.
The INTERIOR consists of a ground floor, a basement with attic room and an attic floor with drying attic. The goat shed is now a bathroom. Among the preserved components are an original storage cupboard in the basement, the original kitchen tiling, the tiling in the hall (floor tiles and wainscoting in blue and grey tiles), the internal doors with fittings and handles and original heating radiators from the Rotterdam/Amsterdam Central Heating Company. In the room the fireplace has been slightly altered.
Valuation
SERVANTS' QUARTERS Otterloseweg 314 from 1920-1925 according to a design from 1920 by Kropholler.
-Of architectural-historical value as a sound and good example of a servants' quarters from the early twenties, based on the Gooi Countryside House style. The building stands out in particular through its main form in keeping with rural building traditions, the expressive masonry in Norwegian bond in which misshapen bricks are used and the craftsman-like appearance of the fittings of windows and doors. The dwelling is one of a series of staff dwellings that architect Kropholler built at the commission of the couple Kröller-Müller and which all display a comparable rustic, traditionalist style characteristic of the architect's oeuvre.
-Of town planning value due to its location on the De Hoge Veluwe estate, where the striking servants' quarters possess an image-determining value. In conjunction with building no. 310 and the entrance to the estate there is a small town planning concept.
-Of cultural-historical value as part of the estate that the couple Kröller-Müller assembled and arranged from 1909.
