Inleiding
Kropholler ontwierp woningen in Hoenderloo.

Description
Introduction
SERVICE DWELLING in Hoenderloo, on the estate De Hoge Veluwe, built circa 1920-1925, probably designed by A.J. Kropholler.
From 1909 onwards, the estate De Hoge Veluwe was created by the Rotterdam industrialist couple Helene Müller (1869-1939) and Anthony G. Kröller (1862-1941) purchasing and consolidating land. The old public roads that ran across the land were closed and rerouted at Kröller's expense. The newly created estate, covering approximately 6800 hectares, was enclosed with fencing. This country seat created by the couple served primarily as a hunting ground and country residence for the family and their guests. A farm was also operated on the estate. Furthermore, within De Hoge Veluwe, the artistic ideal envisioned by Helene Müller was realized. The grounds were laid out under her direction with architecture and artworks, all intended in their own way to make visible the unity of art and nature that she advocated. Finally, a large museum building was to be erected on the grounds to house Mrs. Kröller's art collection.
To develop the estate, the couple engaged various architects. Buildings were actually constructed on the estate by H.P. BERLAGE, the Belgian HENRY VAN DE VELDE, and A.J. KROPHOLLER. The sculptural works incorporated in the complex were created by sculptors J. MENDES DA COSTA and JOHN RAEDECKER.
Following the economic crisis, the management of the estate was transferred in 1928 to the Stichting Kröller-Müller foundation. In 1935, the Stichting Het Nationale Park de Hoge Veluwe foundation was established.
Service dwellings were built on the estate for the staff responsible for the upkeep of the grounds. The wooden service dwellings were designed by Van de Velde and are located in Otterlo. Kropholler designed dwellings in Hoenderloo. He chose a rustic style for these dwellings. The so-called 'Five dwellings' are comparably arranged modest detached houses, with small wooded gardens containing sheds and ponds. Originally, the dwellings were equipped with a goat stable. The interiors of the dwellings feature recurring elements, such as blue-grey tiling around the fireplace. For the dwellings at Harskampweg 13 and 17 and at Otterloseweg 310 and 314, there is an urban design layout in which the cottages are positioned with mirror symmetry to each other. It is not known whether the service dwelling at Deelenseweg 6 was designed by Kropholler. However, in layout and style, the dwellings are comparable. It may be assumed that Kropholler was also the architect of Deelenseweg 6. The residential house at Deelenseweg 8 in Gooise country house style is probably also a design by A.J. Kropholler.
The dwelling is located on the west side of the Deelenseweg, at the edge of the park. The building is surrounded by a wooded garden.
Description
SERVICE DWELLING consisting of one storey and an attic enclosed by a thatched, half-hipped gabled roof with red brick ridge cresting. In the middle of the ridge is a square brick chimney shaft with a slightly protruding edge. The facades are constructed in brownish-yellow hard-fired brick in Norwegian bond. The facades contain window openings with multi-paned inward-opening windows. The windows are closed at the top and bottom by projecting upper and lower cill with a weathering moulding above and below respectively.
Centrally in the symmetrical FRONT FACADE (east facade) is a recessed single wooden door with glazed panels. The door has a wooden surround with a trapezoidal closing element at the top. The semi-circular porch is closed off by a weathering moulding. To the left and right of the door is an identical window consisting of two coupled four-pane windows on each side flanked by clamped shutters. On the storey under the half-hip are three coupled four-pane casement windows.
The LEFT SIDE FACADE (south facade) consists of a recessed facade of a small outbuilding with a lean-to hipped roof and the side facade of the main volume. At the far left in the recessed facade are two coupled windows on each side flanked by shutters. In the facade of the main volume are two regularly distributed windows consisting of two coupled six-pane windows on each side flanked by shutters. In the roof slope is a non-original roof dormer with two single-pane windows under a thatched roof.
The REAR FACADE (west facade) consists of the rear facade of the extension and the recessed facade of the main volume. In the rear facade of the extension is a bricked-up semi-circular opening of a former coal store/dog kennel with above it a two-pane drop-light window. In the recessed facade is a window identical to those in the left side facade.
On the left in the RIGHT SIDE FACADE (north facade) is a four-pane window flanked on one side by a shutter, a two-pane drop-light window, a rectangular clamped door, and a single-pane toilet window.
The INTERIOR has been largely modernized.
