Omschrijving onderdeel A

Description
Description of component A
T-FARMSTEAD with an attached outbuilding barn that falls outside the protected area. The block-shaped main house is constructed on a rectangular floor plan and comprises two storeys and an attic storey under a hipped roof, laid with muffled Dutch tiles. In the ridge of the roof there is, at the far right and far left, a masonry chimney. The walls feature a plastered plinth and are constructed in red brick in running bond. The four corners have masonry corner pilasters. The wall openings in the main house are all provided with subsills and segmental arches with plastered voussoirs. The walls contain several cast-iron ornamental wall anchors placed at regular intervals. The predominant window form used is the T-sash window (front facade), furthermore casement windows are applied (side walls). The windows in the first storey are fitted with green-painted hinged shutters. The walls are finished at the top by a running moulded cornice with box gutter. The FRONT FACADE of the main house has five bays between masonry corner pilasters. In the projecting central section there is, in the first storey in a recessed porch, the entrance with double panel doors under a single-rune fanlight. The doors have panes behind tracery. On either side of the entrance there are four T-sash windows. In the second storey there are five smaller T-sash windows, without shutters. Central to the front wall, as a crowning feature of the central projection, is a dormer window under an attached gabled roof. This dormer has a single-rune tilting window, and is surrounded by carved shoulder pieces and lobed roof ornaments. The RIGHT SIDE WALL of the main house has two bays and has in the first storey on the right a door with fanlight and on the left a sash window with shutters. In the second storey there are two casement windows. The LEFT SIDE WALL has two T-sash windows with shutters in the first storey and two, probably casement windows, in the second storey.
The SERVICE SECTION adjoining the rear of the main house with central aisle, comprises one storey and an attic storey under a gabled roof with half-hipped end, laid with red Mulden tiles and partly with red Dutch tiles (part of right roof slope). The walls feature a plastered plinth as on the main house and are constructed in red brick in running bond. Drainage takes place via a box gutter on brick supports. In the free-standing part of the RIGHT SIDE WALL of the service section, there is a non-original door under a straight arch, and above it a small window fitted with bars. To the left of this there are windows of the cellar and upper room, one above the other, both fitted with bars. The LEFT SIDE WALL of the service section has, at the location of the kitchen, two T-sash windows as described, and a side entrance with wooden door and two-pane fanlight, surrounded by a whitewashed wooden door frame with lintel. The wall section at the location of the stables has three green-painted hinged stable doors and to the right of these two small windows with shutters. These wall openings are closed at the top with a masonry segmental arch with plastered voussoirs. Higher in the wall there are three half stable windows with iron glazing bars. The REAR WALL is surrounded by masonry corner pilasters and a dentil course under the eaves. Central to the rear wall is a non-original steel roller door under a masonry segmental arch with plastered voussoirs. In the keystone initials and a date are carved: 'JHB/JHH/1891'. On either side of this door are tall side windows with iron glazing bars. At the far right and left are two stable doors under segmental arches with plastered voussoirs. Higher in the wall, under the half-hipped end, are three loading hatches, all with non-original infill.
Part of the garden is surrounded by original wrought-iron FENCING.
Valuation
T-FARMSTEAD from the end of the nineteenth century (complex component A) with FENCING
- Of architectural historical value as a fine and good example of a scholte-farmstead of the T-type from the end of the nineteenth century, which stands out due to the imposing block-shaped main house with sober but harmonious detailing. The farmstead is one of the finer examples of the type of farmstead more commonly applied in this region, which came into fashion with scholte families in the second half of the nineteenth century.
- Of urban planning value as the main component of the farmstead complex, which, particularly due to the block-shaped main house on the Ratumseweg, plays a defining role in the townscape.
- Of cultural historical value due to the designation of the whole as a scholte-farmstead in the agricultural, economic and social history of the Netherlands. The fine dwelling house is an expression of the need for status that characterized scholte families at the end of the nineteenth century.
