Omschrijving
JOODSE BEGRAAFPLAATS met nagenoeg rechthoekige plattegrond omsloten door een bakstenen muur. De bakstenen ommuring wordt afgesloten door een uitgemetselde rollaag onderbroken door regelmatig verdeelde, hoger opgetrokken, vierkante bakstenen pilaren.
Binnen de ommuring bevindt zich een rechtlijnig padenverloop, bestaande uit twee parallel gelegen onverharde paden van oost naar west, in de lengterichting van het perceel.
Aan weerszijden van de paden bevindt zich een graszode met daarop de individuele grafstenen, soms per twee verbonden, met of zonder smeedijzeren hekwerk. Het belang van de graven ligt niet zozeer in de individuele waarde als wel in de collectieve betekenis die zij, met name door materiaalgebruik en situering binnen de aanleg, hebben voor het zo typisch eenvoudige, natuurlijke karakter van van deze begraafplaats. De grafstenen zijn geordend in rijen haaks op het pad. De Hebreeuwse en/of Jiddische teksten op de grafstenen richten zichnaar de entree. De grafsteen van Levi Hartog uit circa 1800 is één van de eerste graven.
Tegen het gebruik in van de Joodse gemeente is de Joodse begraafplaats in Hengelo (Gld) geruimd en zijn de grafstenen geplaatst linksachter op de Joodse begraafplaats in Zutphen. Dit deel is van het overge deel afgeschermd door een gevarieerde begroeiing.

JEWISH CEMETERY with nearly rectangular ground plan enclosed by a brick wall. The brick enclosure is closed off by a built-up roll moulding interrupted by regularly distributed, higher built-up, square brick pillars.
Within the enclosure is a linear path arrangement, consisting of two parallel unpaved paths running east to west, in the longitudinal direction of the plot.
On either side of the paths is a grassed area with individual gravestones, sometimes connected in pairs, with or without wrought-iron ironwork. The importance of the graves lies not so much in the individual value as in the collective significance which they, in particular through material use and siting within the layout, have for the so typically simple, natural character of this cemetery. The gravestones are arranged in rows perpendicular to the path. The Hebrew and/or Yiddish texts on the gravestones are oriented towards the entrance. The gravestone of Levi Hartog from approximately 1800 is one of the first graves.
Against the custom of the Jewish community, the Jewish cemetery in Hengelo (Gld) was cleared and the gravestones were placed back left on the Jewish cemetery in Zutphen. This section is separated from the rest by varied vegetation.
