HOORNWERK. Buiten de v.m.Vispoort aan de zuidzijde van de stad bevindt zich een hoornwerk, dat het enige gaaf bewaarde overblijfsel vormt van de 17e eeuwse vestingwerken, thans echter bebouwd met moderne bouwsels. Het werd in het begin der 18e eeuw door Menno van Coehoorn gemoderniseerd. Voor het overige werden de 17e en 18e eeuwse wallen en grachten, alsmede 1 of 2 bastions en een lunettenlinie, in XIX in plantsoenen veranderd.

Description
HORNWORK. Outside the former Fish Gate on the south side of the city is a hornwork, which is the only well-preserved remnant of the 17th century fortifications, but is now built over with modern structures. It was modernized in the early 18th century by Menno van Coehoorn. For the rest, the 17th and 18th century walls and moats, as well as 1 or 2 bastions and a lunette line, were converted into parks in the XIX century.
