Inleiding
HEK, gelegen op een dam naar een weidegebied in het noordelijk buitengebied van Leeuwarden, aan de oude uitvalsweg naar Stiens en enkele honderden meters ten noorden van de boerderij Mr. P.J. Troelstraweg 193 waarvan het voorhuis en het hek aan de ingang van het erf eveneens beschermd zijn. Het alleenstaande hek is vrij zeker uit dezelfde tijd en door dezelfde opdrachtgever als genoemde boerderij geplaatst; het hek is nagenoeg identiek aan die op de erfgrens van de boerderij, alleen de vleugelstukken zijn anders. Het hek is in 1889 mogelijk naar ontwerp van Hendrik Kramer gemaakt in Neo-Renaissancestijl. Aan het einde van de negentiende eeuw liet de boerenfamilie Wassenaar drie grote en buitengewoon representatieve boerderijen links en rechts van de oude Middelzeedijk bouwen. Rechts, nabij Jelsum zijn dat Vijverzathe en Haskerzathe op het oude (beide eveneens beschermd) en links, halfweg Leeuwarden-Jelsum een naamloze op het nieuwe land. Het waren en zijn indrukwekkende boerderijen. Omstreeks 1900 schreef de reiziger Jacob Hepkema in zijn Eenvoudige Memories: "Het eerste deel van onzen weg in de open ruimte voert ons nog door greiden, waar het excelleerende Friesche rundvee bewonderd kan worden; gelijk men hier tevens ziet eenige boerderijen van den eersten rang, zooals men die in gansch Friesland niet bij en naast elkander zal terugvinden; ze zijn der bezichtiging overwaard, bovenal den vreemdeling aanbevolen, voor wien ze de aantrekkelijkheid van 't nieuwe bezitten, zo wat den bouw als de indeeling betreft". Het losstaande hek, een representatieve `homei' of `hamei', toont aan dat de allure zelfs bij een entree van een stuk land werd voortgezet. Het beantwoordt niet aan de agrarische traditie van eenvoudige, houten boerenhekken, evenmin als het voorhuis van genoemde boerderij.
Omschrijving
Groot ijzeren HEK op een verharde dam naar een weidegebied. De zware gietijzeren penanten lijken gevormd als fasces, roedenbundels, maar het zijn kolommen met twee gegroefde registers die door meerledige bolle banden worden afgegrensd, vrij vlakke basementen en kopstukken hebben en bekroond worden door meervoudig geprofileerde pinakels. Aan de penanten zijn gebogen smeedijzeren draaihekken verbonden en vleugelstukken waarvan de zuidelijke de oorspronkelijke gebogen vorm nog heeft en de noordelijke vervangen is door een scheefstaand eenvoudig spijlenhek. Zowel de draaihekken als de vleugelstukken hebben een constructie van smeedijzeren spijlen tussen liggers, verstevigd door een diagonale verbinding.
WAARDERING

GATE, located on a dam leading to a pasture area in the northern outskirts of Leeuwarden, on the old road out towards Stiens and several hundred metres north of the farmhouse Mr. P.J. Troelstraweg 193 of which the front house and the gate at the entrance to the farmyard are also protected. The freestanding gate is very certainly from the same period and placed by the same patron as the aforementioned farmhouse; the gate is almost identical to that on the boundary of the farmyard, only the wing sections are different. The gate was possibly made in 1889 to a design by Hendrik Kramer in Neo-Renaissance style. At the end of the nineteenth century, the farming family Wassenaar had three large and exceptionally representative farmhouses built on either side of the old Middelzeedijk. On the right, near Jelsum those are Vijverzathe and Haskerzathe on the old land (both likewise protected) and on the left, halfway between Leeuwarden and Jelsum an unnamed one on the new land. Large iron GATE on a paved dam leading to a pasture area. The heavy cast-iron posts appear to be formed as fasces, bundles of rods, but they are columns with two grooved registers bounded by multi-moulded convex bands, with fairly flat bases and capitals and crowned by multiply-profiled pinnacles. Curved wrought-iron swing gates and wing sections are attached to the posts, of which the southern one still has its original curved form and the northern one has been replaced by a skew simple paling gate. Both the swing gates and the wing sections have a construction of wrought-iron palings between rails, reinforced by a diagonal bracing.
VALUATION
The iron gate on the dam leading to the pasture area is of general cultural-historical, architectural-historical and landscape importance by reason of:
