The register's description

HUIZE KLARENBEEK (1) with rectangular ground plan consists of two storeys enclosed by a hipped roof covered with low-fired Dutch tiles. On the corners of the hipped roof is each time a square brick chimney stack with coping stone. Centrally above the gutter on brackets is in each roof slope a roof dormer. The façades with tuff stone are built in English bond in red brick. In the façades with wooden cornice are regularly distributed six-pane sash windows on either side flanked by shutters. At the bottom the windows are closed by a natural stone drip stone, at the top by a stretcher course.

The symmetrical FRONT FAÇADE consists of five window bays with a projecting central risalit. In the central risalit on the ground floor is the entrance arrangement. The entrance arrangement consists of a double door with two-pane fanlight on either side flanked by wooden pilasters at the top closed by a cornice. In front of the door, fitted with wrought iron for the glass panes, is a stone stoop. On the first floor is a six-pane sash window. The risalit ends in a roof dormer consisting of a four-pane dormer window with cornice with wooden cheeks on either side closed by a gabled roof covered with zinc. The central risalit is flanked on either side by two identical window bays with in each bay in both storeys a six-pane sash window. At the far left and right the façade is terminated by means of a corner bond in fair-faced masonry. Bottom right in the corner bond at the far right is an inset stone with the text `F.I.B.W. KREPEL/ 18 21/4 42/ IRK EH'. The date is flanked on either side by an angel. The LEFT SIDE FAÇADE consists of two identical window bays. Centrally above the gutter is a roof dormer consisting of a four-pane dormer window with wooden cheeks closed by a stepped gable with underlying gabled roof.

The REAR FAÇADE is identical to the front façade.

The RIGHT SIDE FAÇADE consists of three window bays with projecting central risalit. On the ground floor in the central risalit is a non-original door with two-pane fanlight. On the first floor is a six-pane sash window. The central bay is flanked on either side by an identical window bay with in both storeys a sash window. In the roof slope is a roof dormer as in the left side façade.

The INTERIOR has been largely preserved in its original state, partly altered in 1954. In the interior is among other things a corridor with natural stone floor, a wooden staircase and fine stucco ceilings. In most rooms are fireplace surrounds and stucco ceilings, the most notable being the room in the south-east corner.

Valuation

HUIZE KLARENBEEK (1) built in 1842 at the commission of J.R. Krepel jr.

- Of architectural-historical value as an example of a symmetrically laid out country house from 1842 in neo-classical style with well-preserved interior.

- Of urban planning value because of the functional-spatial relationship of the country house as a director's residence with the other components of the 'Klarenbeek' complex.

- Of cultural-historical value as a residence of the Krepel family, important for the origins of the coppersmithing at the beginning of the nineteenth century, which developed into a cigar-box factory/wood industry at the end of the nineteenth century.

1732-1764 start of copper-pressing mill by T.J. Pluim near present Polveensweg 1764-1779 Krepel family at Klarenbeek exploitation of copper-pressing mill after the death of T.J. Pluim 1808 New mill. Spring water coming from higher-lying Beekbergen without embankment. Construction of dikes by the Krepel family to direct and use the water as an energy source for the new factory: waterwheel. Dikes raised high above the surrounding land to enable the water to be used via a waterwheel (largest waterwheel on the Veluwe 7 metres diameter). A pond created as a water reservoir.

1847 takeover of the copper mill by J.R. Krepel from his father 1870 reorganisation of the business: replacement of copper-pressing mill with cigar-box factory and cooper's workshop.
