Inleiding
Even ten zuiden van de spoorlijn Eindhoven-Venlo staat in een bosje, en in de bocht van de weg die de spoorlijn kruist, de S-KAZEMAT K27. De ingang van de kazemat (keelzijde) is gelegen aan deze weg, de frontzijde is gelegen aan de rand van het water dat het verbindingsstuk vormt tussen enerzijds het (noordelijke) Defensie- of Peelkanaal (gemeente Venray) en de 'kanalenvork' ten zuiden van Griendtsveen, inclusief het zuidelijke stukje van het Defensie- of Peelkanaal. De kazemat maakt binnen de gelaagde opbouw van de accesverdediging deel uit van de meest westelijke "ring", ter hoogte van de linie zelf.
Omschrijving
De kazemat is een onderdeel van de accesverdediging van de spoorlijn Eindhoven-Venlo die te Griendtsveen het Peelgebied doorkruist. Ook deze kazemat brengt in oostelijke richting vuur uit, waarbij ook de spoorlijn onder vuur kan worden genomen. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen sporen van gevechtshandelingen. De stekels zijn bij deze kazemat nog zeer duidelijk aanwezig. De achterzijde is weer open gemaakt.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het object is architectuur- en bouwhistorisch van belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het is ook van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van diverse verdedigingsobjecten- en structuren inzake de nationale landsverdediging.
Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel: enerzijds als onderdeel van de landsverdediging (het geheel aan stellingen aan de vooravond van de Tweede Wereldoorlog), en anderzijds als belangrijk (structurerend) onderdeel van het Peelgebied dat als militair landschap cultuurhistorisch van belang is. De kazemat heeft een bijzondere historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid van het gebied. Deze verweving geeft het complex ook een grote historische en landschappelijke belevingswaarde. Verder wordt gewezen op de gaafheid van het gehele complex. Daarbij is de gehele stelling als grootschalig militair complex en herinnering aan een grootscheeps uitgevoerde verdedigingsmaatregel in relatie met de Tweede Wereldoorlog in Limburg zeldzaam.

Introduction
Just south of the railway line Eindhoven-Venlo stands in a small wood, and in the bend of the road that crosses the railway line, the S-CASEMATE K27. The entrance of the casemate (throat side) is located at this road, the front side is located at the edge of the water that forms the connecting piece between on the one hand the (northern) Defence or Peel Canal (municipality of Venray) and the 'canal fork' south of Griendtsveen, including the southern section of the Defence or Peel Canal. Within the layered structure of the access defence, the casemate forms part of the most westerly "ring", at the level of the line itself.
Description
The casemate is a component of the access defence of the railway line Eindhoven-Venlo which at Griendtsveen crosses the Peel region. This casemate also brings fire in an easterly direction, whereby the railway line can also be brought under fire. The casemate has been well preserved and shows no signs of combat operations. The anti-tank obstacles are still very clearly present at this casemate. The rear side has been reopened.

The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and is as such an important document of military history. The object is of architectural and construction-historical importance because of the particular use of materials and the application of modern materials and techniques, in particular in the processing of reinforced concrete. It is also of importance for the typological development of various defence objects and structures relating to national territorial defence.
It has ensemble values as an essential component of a larger whole: on the one hand as part of territorial defence (the whole of positions on the eve of the Second World War), and on the other hand as an important (structuring) component of the Peel region which as a military landscape is of cultural-historical importance. The casemate has a particular historical-spatial relationship with roads, waterways and soil conditions of the area. This interweaving gives the complex also great historical and landscape experiential value. Furthermore, attention is drawn to the integrity of the entire complex. The entire position as a large-scale military complex and reminder of a large-scale defence measure in relation to the Second World War in Limburg is rare.
