Inleiding
Historische boerderij Klein Berkenbosch, gelegen tegen de binnenduinrand nabij andere boerderijen en de buitenplaatsen Berkenbosch en Duinbeek. Diverse bronnen maken er melding van dat de boerderij (als oranjerie) oorspronkelijk behoorde bij Berkenbosch.
De boerderij heeft een samengestelde bouwmassa en is in verschillende fasen tot stand gekomen. Het jaar van oorsprong van het huidige gebouw is waarschijnlijk 1691, maar het is aannemelijk dat de huisplaats (en mogelijk de kern van de boerderij) ouder is. De boerderij heeft een hierboven reeds aangeduide historische setting en een op onderdelen, zoals de bestrating ter rechterzijde en de moestuin ter linkerzijde, historisch erf.
Omschrijving
Hoofdvorm en dak De boerderij bestaat van voor naar achter uit voorhuis, breed tussenlid en achterhuis of schuur.
Het voorhuis (volgens jaartalankers uit 1691) is een eenlaags pand onder zadeldak met (hoofdzakelijk gesmoorde) muldenpannen. Het is opgetrokken in één formaat baksteen en voorzien van rechte en jaartalankers. Metselwerk voorzien van klezoren in koppenlagen.
Het tussenlid (waarschijnlijk achttiende eeuws) heeft een asymmetrisch zadeldak gedekt met rode oud-Hollandse pannen. Het is hoofdzakelijk uitgevoerd in staand verband. Aan de rechterzijde, in de 'oksel' met het voorhuis, afwijkend metselwerk ter hoogte van slechts ten dele historische aankappingen. Opvallend is de zware, in moppen uitgevoerde voorgevel, wellicht het oudste gedeelte van het gehele gebouw.
Het waarschijnlijk achttiende-eeuwse achterhuis heeft relatief hoge zijgevels (rechtergevel in de negentiende eeuw versteend) en een zadeldak met hoofdzakelijk rode oud-Hollandse pannen. Het achterste deel (later, omstreeks 1900 aangebouwd) is gedeeltelijk voorzien van gesmoorde geglazuurde oud-Hollandse pannen.
Gevels Voorhuis en tussenlid hebben de meeste historische openingen (deur, schuiframen) aan de linkerzijde. Keldervensters in de voor- en rechterzijde. Tegen de linkergevel van de schuur leiperen.
Het achterhuis heeft de belangrijkste openingen (stal- en mendeuren, hoog geplaatste luiken) in de rechtergevel. De achtergevel is nog gedeeltelijk met hout bekleed.
Interieur Het interieur heeft gedeeltelijk zijn oude indeling met in het voorhuis kamers, in het tussenlid een in aanleg L-vormige gang, keuken en kamers (bedsteden, gemarmerde schouw) en een kelder/opkamercombinatie. Het kelderluik is voorzien van treden. De gang is voorzien van een betegeling van omstreeks 1900.
De schuur is ingedeeld in zes vakken (het laatste toegevoegd omstreeks 1900). Uiteraard is de deel, die het vierde vak beslaat, bereikbaar via de grote mendeuren. Aan de linkerzijde de koestal, aan de achterzijde de paardenstal.
In de schuur bovendien verscheidene inscripties en houtsnijwerk vanaf 1741, onder andere afbeeldingen van zeilschepen. Verder een pomp.
Erf Het erf heeft enkele waardevolle elementen, zoals de (half)verharding ter rechterzijde van de boerderij en de moestuin links.
Waardering
De boerderij Klein Berkenbosch is van algemeen belang vanwege:
* het type Zeeuwse schuurgroep, bestaande uit een aaneengebouwd ensemble van voorhuis, tussenlid en achterhuis;
* bouwhistorie, vanwege de diverse bouwfasen, het gebruik van diverse steenformaten en metselverbanden en bijzondere onderdelen zoals inscripties, keldertrap, pomp enz.;
* de gave, landelijke ligging en de historische relatie met de nabijgelegen buitenplaats Klein Berkenbosch;

Introduction
Historical farmhouse Klein Berkenbosch, situated against the inner dune edge near other farmhouses and the country estates Berkenbosch and Duinbeek. Various sources indicate that the farmhouse (as an orangery) originally belonged to Berkenbosch.
The farmhouse has a composite building mass and was constructed in different phases. The year of origin of the current building is probably 1691, but it is plausible that the homestead (and possibly the core of the farmhouse) is older. The farmhouse has a historical setting as already indicated above and, in certain aspects such as the paving on the right side and the vegetable garden on the left side, a historically authentic yard.
Description
Main form and roof The farmhouse consists from front to back of front house, broad central section and rear house or barn.
The front house (according to date stones from 1691) is a single-storey building under a gabled roof with (mainly covered) curved pantiles. It is constructed in a uniform brick format and furnished with straight and date stones. Brickwork provided with headers in bond courses.
The central section (probably eighteenth century) has an asymmetrical gabled roof covered with red old-Dutch tiles. It is executed mainly in running bond. On the right side, in the 'corner' with the front house, exceptional brickwork at the level of only partially historical cuttings. Striking is the heavy front gable, executed in grouted joints, possibly the oldest part of the entire building.
The probably eighteenth-century rear house has relatively high side gables (right gable bricked up in the nineteenth century) and a gabled roof with mainly red old-Dutch tiles. The rear section (later, built around 1900) is partly furnished with covered glazed old-Dutch tiles.
Gables The front house and central section have the most historic openings (door, sash windows) on the left side. Cellar windows in the front and right side. Roof tiles laid flat against the left gable of the barn.
The rear house has the main openings (stable and cart doors, high-placed shutters) in the right gable. The rear gable is still partly clad with wood.
Interior The interior retains partly its original layout with rooms in the front house, in the central section a partly L-shaped corridor, kitchen and rooms (alcove beds, marbled chimney piece) and a cellar/upper room combination. The cellar hatch is provided with steps. The corridor is furnished with tiling from around 1900.
The barn is divided into six bays (the last added around 1900). Obviously the threshing floor, which occupies the fourth bay, is accessible via the large cart doors. On the left side the cattle stall, on the rear side the horse stable.
In the barn moreover several inscriptions and woodcarving from 1741, including depictions of sailing ships. Furthermore a pump.
Yard The yard has some valuable elements, such as the (half) paved surface on the right side of the farmhouse and the vegetable garden on the left.
