Inleiding
STUDIOGEBOUW (Studio 2), onderdeel van het studio-complex van de AVRO, de Algemene Vereniging Radio Omroep, opgericht op 1 januari 1928. De studio is gebouwd in 1938-1940 naar het ontwerp van B. Merkelbach en Ch.F. Karsten in zakelijk expressionistische bouwtrant en beeldbepalend gesitueerd op een terrein tussen de 's-Gravelandseweg aan de zuidwestzijde, het Melkpad aan de noordwestzijde en de Hoge Naarderweg aan de noordoostzijde. Het gebouw heeft een ERAFSCHEIDING in de vorm van een lage bakstenen muur.
Omschrijving
Studiogebouw (Studio 2), opgetrokken op een plattegrond in de vorm van een vioolkist met de lage, afgeronde glazen ingangspartij aan de westzijde, het hoogste bouwvolume met de grote studio aan de zuidoostzijde en een lager volume met de kleine studio aan de noordwestzijde. De platte daken hebben smalle, overstekende dakranden. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in gele baksteen, terwijl een vertikale geleding van de gevels van de grote studio wordt bereikt door witte banden van het in het zicht gelaten betonskelet. De stalen kozijnen bevatten stalen ramen.
De toegangsdeur in de ronde westhoek is bereikbaar via een trap van vier treden. De grote studio heeft blinde gevels met een risalerend muurdeel aan de zuidoostzijde, boven het dakniveau eindigend in een open constructie. The flat roofs have narrow, overhanging eaves. The facades are constructed in yellow brick, while a vertical articulation of the facades of the large studio is achieved by white bands of the exposed concrete skeleton. The steel frames contain steel windows.
The access door in the rounded western corner is accessed via a staircase of four steps. The large studio has blank facades with a projecting wall section on the southeastern side, ending above roof level in an open structure. On the ground floor a predominantly glazed conservatory with entrance on the side of the Hoge Naarderweg. Between the small studio with two blank facades and the large studio is a small rectangular volume with an entrance, surrounded by windows. The interior wall of the large studio was executed in a concrete skeleton.
