Inleiding

Introduction

The PARSONAGE forms part of the complex Aan de Berg at Sint Odiliënberg. The PARSONAGE at Kerkplein 11 at Sint Odiliënberg is situated at the foot of the church hill. The parsonage shares a common history with the cloister house of the Venerable Sisters Canons Regular of the Holy Sepulchre and the adjoining former convent school.

As a cloister house, Pastor Willemsen places his parsonage from 1879 - located on top of the church hill - at the disposal. Pastor Willemsen gives the commission in 1889 to build a new parsonage at the foot of the church hill.

EXCLUDED from PROTECTION is the garage from approximately 1970 located on the left side of the parsonage.

Description

The PARSONAGE has a rectangular floor plan and three storeys under a gabled roof with Dutch tiles. Under the cornice of the front and rear facades there is ornamental brickwork in the form of a block tooth cornice. The side facades end in stepped gables supported on shoulder pieces with natural stone base. The building has a brick elevation in English bond with a projecting plinth, finished with stucco.

In the facades, unless otherwise noted, there are segmental arch-shaped window openings in which rectangular wooden frames are fitted with glazing bars and fanlights. The fanlights in the front facade have leaded glass windows. The windows in the front facade have fill panels with ornamental brickwork. All windows have natural stone sills.

The FRONT FACADE has a symmetrical composition. The segmental arch-shaped entrance is centrally placed with a double rectangular wooden door with fanlight with leaded glass windows and is accessed via three stone steps. The double door has an iron door grate. Above the door is a fill panel with ornamental brickwork and a roof hood placed. In the first storey left and right of the front door a window as well as four wrought-iron floor anchors. In the second storey there are three windows and four floor anchors. In the third storey a roof dormer with stepped gable supported on natural stone shoulder pieces and a rectangular window without fanlight.

In the RIGHT SIDE FACADE successively: a window in the first storey, a window in the second storey, where the footbridge was formerly located, and two small garret windows in the third storey.

In the LEFT SIDE FACADE in the first storey a window, followed by two windows of the staircase placed one above the other in the first and second storey and in the third storey two small garret windows. In the side facades in each storey various floor anchors, of which seven are located under the stepped gables.

The REAR FACADE also has a symmetrical window composition. In the middle of the facade an extension is placed over all storeys under a half-hipped roof. In the first storey a small window with glazing bars and a larger rectangular window with casements are placed next to each other. In the second storey a square window without glazing bars is placed. In the right side facade of the extension a wooden segmental arch-shaped door with stone sill, accessed via four steps. Left and right of the extension a window is placed both in the first and second storey.

Viewed from the street side, from the left side facade a number of rectangular lean-to extensions in one storey are placed. The first lean-to under a gabled roof has three rectangular mullioned windows in the front facade with brick sills and in the rear facade only a rectangular wooden door. Then a small lean-to with flat roof and a door. This lean-to also provides access to the garage from 1970. Then follows in a right angle a third lean-to under half-hipped roof with rectangular wooden door and likewise window with glazing bars and brick sill.

In the INTERIOR the authentic structure with hallway, staircase and rooms has been retained.

Valuable are among others the marble floor and the leaded glass in the draught-proof door with fanlight in the hallway as well as the authentic wooden staircase.

Valuation

The PARSONAGE at Kerkplein in Sint Odiliënberg possesses cultural-historical values as a particular expression of the spiritual development of the Roman Catholic church in Limburg, as an expression of the typological development as a parsonage and as part of the complex Aan de Berg at Sint Odiliënberg. The architectural-historical values are determined by the aesthetic qualities of the design of the parsonage as well as by the application of elements of the Dutch stepped gable.

The ensemble values are determined by the significance of the parsonage as an essential building with the basilica and the particular significance due to the siting as part of the complex Aan de Berg with the basilica, the O.L. Vrouwekapel and the monastery Priory Thabor with the cloister house.

The parsonage has been preserved in a high degree of integrity. The parsonage is of general importance because of the architectural-historical and cultural-historical values, the ensemble value and the high degree of integrity.
