The register's description

Waardering

De HISTORISCHE TUIN- EN PARKAANLEG is van algemeen belang:

- vanwege de bijzondere landschapsarchitectonische waarde van het ontwerp;

- vanwege de ontwikkelingsgeschiedenis;

- vanwege de ensemblewaarde met de tegenover liggende hertenkamp;

- als onderdeel van de Stichtse Lustwarande.

Description of component 2: (Hoofdstraat 21: park and Hoofdstraat 20: deer park) PARK LAYOUT.

Park laid out in landscape style in the manner of, or by J.D. Zocher jr. The southwestern part of the park is characterized by a relatively open hilly landscape with meandering pond, groups of trees and solitary specimens, surrounded by park woodland. The vegetation is to a large extent still from the time of the layout and consists of red and green beech, oak, and, to a lesser extent, ash, linden and chestnut. In the northeastern part of the park the appearance is determined by park woodland: deciduous woodland (beech, oak) in the central part, transitioning into coniferous woodland in the more northerly located part. The park is composed around a hill raised centrally in the southwestern part, for which a meandering pond was laid out. Originally the house Beerschoten-Willinkshof stood on this hill, nowadays a classicist small temple stands there. From this point there are sight lines towards the deer park (southwest), over the meandering pond in front of the hill in southeastern and western direction and towards the northeast located carriage house. The unpaved meandering paths that run from the southern and western corner (Hoofdstraat) of the terrain around aforementioned hill in a northeastern direction offer fine vistas towards the temple and the pond. To the northeast of the hill the paths converge, and at the level of a kidney-shaped small pond split again and, meandering somewhat through the park woodland, emerge at the Arnhemse Bovenweg. The southern path leads via a flat bridge with curved brick retaining walls and simple iron bridge railings over the pond; the pond continues past the bridge as a narrow ditch into the park. The hockey fields located in the southeast are of subordinate importance for protection as such, but the openness of the terrain is important for the contrast effect with the curved line of the woodland edge. On the side of the railway there is a Wilhelmina tree with associated fencing. On the other side of the Hoofdstraat there is a deer park belonging to the layout, which, like the park, has been opened to the public. It is lightly undulating terrain with a centrally located meandering pond. The original rustic fencing has been replaced by modern fencing, the original Swiss deer house has also been replaced by a more modern variant. In layout the terrain still forms a visual unity with the park layout around the former house on the other side of the street.

Valuation

The HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT is of general importance:

- because of the exceptional landscape-architectural value of the design;

- because of the development history;

- because of the ensemble value with the deer park opposite;

- as part of the Stichtse Lustwarande.
