Inleiding
De groep GRAFTEKENS van de familie van Dort tot Medler bestaat uit zeven bijeen geplaatste grafmonumenten uit de periode 1847-1887. Centraal staat het monument voor de stichters van de begraafplaats R.E. baron van Dorth tot Medler en zijn echtgenote barones van Hövell tot Westerflier, opgericht door hun kinderen (A). Rechts van dit monument ligt een grafheuvel, waarin een van de zonen met zijn vrouw en dochter is bijgezet (B). Links ervan staan drie graftekens van kinderen die ongetrouwd zijn gebleven waaronder Josephine Barones van Dorth tot Medler en haar broer Theodoor, stichters van de kerk en de pastorie in Kranenburg (C). Achter het monument voor de ouders liggen twee hardstenen zerken van een verwant echtpaar (D).
Omschrijving
A. Het zandstenen GRAFTEKEN van de ouders heeft een vierkante, zich verjongende romp op een rechte voet met ojiefprofiel en wordt afgesloten met een hoofdgestel, dat is bekroond met een taps toelopende steen, waarop een doodshoofd met twee gekruiste beenderen rust. Op het doodshoofd staat een kruis. De vier zijden van de romp hebben vlakke omlijstingen en ovalen medaillons in hoogreliëf, waarbij de medaillons van de voor- en de achterzijde een verdere bewerking hebben ondergaan, terwijl de medaillons van de beide zijkanten leeg zijn gebleven. Het medaillon aan de voorzijde toont het alliantiewapen, dat bestaat uit twee wapenschilden met één kroon erboven en een balk met versiering eronder en als schildhouders twee leeuwen. Het wapenschild met de drie kepers is het wapen van de familie Van Dorth, het wapenschild met de drie gaffelsgewijs gerangschikte heuvels is het wapen van de familie Van Hövell. Boven het wapen bevindt zich in een liggend ovaal het volgende opschrift: "IN MEMORIA/ AETERNA ERONT/ JUSTI". Aan de achterzijde draagt het medaillon het opschrift: "Ter zalige/ nagedachtenis van/ R.E. BARON van DORTH/ van t MEDLER. Overleden/ den 2 = september 1847./ in den ouderdom/ van ruim 88 jaren/ en/ zijne Echtgenoot/ M.G.I. BARONES/ van HÖVELL tot WESTERFIER/ Overleden den 18 = december 1835/ in den ouderdom van 67 jaren./ Welke deze begraafplaats hebben gesticht,/ en wier stof alhier rust./ Door hunne kinderen/ R.I.P.".
B. Rechts van het oudergraf ligt het grafmonument van één van de zonen met zijn vrouw en jong gestorven dochter.
Het GRAFTEKEN bestaat uit een grafheuvel die aan de voor- en de achterzijde wordt ingeklemd tussen twee naar het midden toe oplopende gemetselde muurtjes met hardstenen afdekplaten. Aan de voorzijde is tegen het muurtje een zerk met opschrift en een staand naar het midden toe oplopend hardstenen deel met een alliantiewapen met hardstenen afdekplaten geplaatst. Het in hoogreliëf uitgevoerde alliantiewapen bestaat uit twee wapenschilden met één kroon erboven en een balk met een kleed eronder en als schildhouders een leeuw en een hond. Het opschrift op de zerk luidt: "HIER RUSTEN/ Mr. GIJSBERT HENDRIK WILLEM LAURENS/ BARON VAN DORT TOT MEDLER/ ECHTGENOOT VAN M.F.X. BARONES/ VAN HUGENPOTH VAN AERDT/ GEBOREN TE VORDEN 10 AUG. 1811/ OVERLEDEN TE ARNHEM 6 SEPT. 1875/ DE H.W. GEB. VROUWE/ MARIA FRANCISCA XAVERIA/ BARONES VAN HUGENPOTH VAN AERDT/ DOUAIRIERE VAN WIJLEN DEN H.W. GEB. HEER/ Mr. G.H.W. BARON VAN DORTH TOT MEDLER/ GEB. TE SGRAVENHAGE 16 MEI 1816 EN/ OVERL. Het geheel wordt omgeven door een gemetseld voetmuurtje, waarin zich ijzerresten bevinden, die aangeven dat er oorspronkelijk een hek op heeft gestaan.
C. Links achter het oudergraf staan de GRAFTEKENS van drie andere kinderen, twee zussen en een broer die ongetrouwd bleven en samen op Huize De Wientjesvoort woonden. De graftekens bestaan uit drie stèles, waarvan de middelste, gehakt uit zandsteen, gefankeerd wordt door twee hardstenen exemplaren. De stèles staan op twee later aangebrachte platen van beton.
Het middelste grafteken heeft een door de neogotiek beïnvloede vormgeving, een romp met een door een kruis bekroond dakje en een spitsboogvormige nis, met een inschrift in gotische letters: "Bid (...) ziel en Zaligheid/ HoogWeled. Geb. Jonkvr./ Judith Maria Ignatia Olivera/ Baronesse van DORTH/ tot Medler geb. den 9/ Ian. 1807. overl. op den/ huize Wientjesvoort/ den 8 (...) 1853/ Dat ze ruste in vrede". Het spitsboogvormig tympaan is gevuld met een gebeeldhouwd wapen van de familie Van Dorth in hoogreliëf, dat bestaat uit een wapenschild met helm met vederbos en als schilddragers twee leeuwen. Aan de achterzijde is ook een spitsboogvormige nis uitgespaard voorzien van gebeeldhouwde reliëfs: in het tympaan een doodshoofd met gekruiste beenderen en in het veld eronder twee gekruiste brandende toortsen. De romp van de stèle staat op een rechte voet en sokkel. De hardstenen stèles vertonen stijlinvloeden van de neorenaissance. Ze bestaan uit een romp op een brede rechte voet en rechte sokkel met ojiefprofiel en worden afgesloten door een hoofdgestel met frontons aan vier zijden en een siervaas op uitgebogen sokkel. Op de vier hoeken van de romp bevinden zich gekeerde toortsen. In de voorzijde zijn marmeren platen met inschriften aangebracht. De tekst op de linker stèle luidt: "TER ZALIGE NAGEDACHTENIS AAN/ THEODORUS JOSEPHUS MARTINUS/ HENRICUS BARON VAN DORTH/ TOT MEDLER/ GEBOREN 20 AUGUSTUS 1808/ OVERLEDEN 25 NOVEMBER 1863/ DOOR ZIJNE BROEDERS EN ZUSTER/ R.I.P.". De tekst op de rechter stèle luidt: "TER ZALIGE NAGEDACHTENIS AAN/ JOSEPHA JOANNA ARNOLDA/ ELEONORA CHARLOTTA SOPHIA/ BARONES VAN DORTH TOT MEDLER/ GEB. 22 JUNIJ 1800/ OVERL. OP DEN HUIZE/ WIENTJESVOORT/ 26 APRIL 1886" en op de sokkel staat: "AL WELDOENDE IS ZIJ HEENGEGAAN/ (...)/ R.I.P.". De achterzijden van beide grafmonumenten zijn versierd met reliëfs van het familiewapen, dat bestaat uit een wapenschild met drie kepers, een helm met vederbos en twee leeuwen als schilddragers. De zijkanten van de stèles zijn voorzien van kruisen in ondiep reliëf en de rechter stèle heeft links een uitstekende koperen haak.
D. Achter het oudermonument liggen de GRAFTEKENS van een verwant echtpaar, twee tegen elkaar geplaatste hardstenen zerken, die worden "verbonden" door een doorlopende gebeeldhouwde tak in hoogreliëf en beide zijn voorzien van een familiewapen eveneens uitgevoerd in hoogreliëf. Het linker wapen bestaat uit een wapenschild met drie kepers, een helm met vederbos en als schilddragers twee leeuwen. De rechter zerk heeft een wapen dat bestaat uit een wapenschild met een vleugel, een kroon en een helm met vederbos en twee leeuwen als schilddragers. Van het opschrift op de linker zerk zijn enkel de woorden "HIER RUST" bewaard gebleven, de rest is vervaagd. Description
A. The sandstone GRAVE MARKER of the parents has a square, tapering shaft on a straight base with ogee moulding and is topped with a capital, which is crowned with a tapering stone, on which a skull with two crossed bones rests. On the skull stands a cross. The four sides of the shaft have flat mouldings and oval medallions in high relief, whereby the medallions of the front and back sides have undergone further working, while the medallions of the two side faces have remained empty. The medallion on the front shows the alliance coat of arms, which consists of two heraldic shields with one crown above and a band with ornamentation below and two lions as supporters. The shield with the three chevrons is the coat of arms of the Van Dorth family, the shield with the three forks arranged in a forked manner is the coat of arms of the Van Hövell family. Above the coat of arms is found in a horizontal oval the following inscription: "IN MEMORIA/ AETERNA ERONT/ JUSTI". On the rear side the medallion bears the inscription: "To the blessed/ memory of/ R.E. BARON van DORTH/ van t MEDLER. The GRAVE MARKER consists of a grave mound which on the front and rear sides is enclosed between two masonry walls sloping towards the centre with sandstone coping stones. On the front side, against the wall is placed a slab with inscription and a standing sandstone component sloping towards the centre with an alliance coat of arms with sandstone coping stones. The alliance coat of arms executed in high relief consists of two heraldic shields with one crown above and a band with a garland below and as supporters a lion and a dog. The inscription on the slab reads: "HERE REST/ Mr. GIJSBERT HENDRIK WILLEM LAURENS/ BARON VAN DORT TOT MEDLER/ SPOUSE OF M.F.X. On the four corners of the shaft are placed inverted torches. On the front side marble plates with inscriptions are mounted. The text on the left stela reads: "TO THE BLESSED MEMORY OF/ THEODORUS JOSEPHUS MARTINUS/ HENRICUS BARON VAN DORTH/ TOT MEDLER/ BORN 20 AUGUST 1808/ DIED 25 NOVEMBER 1863/ BY HIS BROTHERS AND SISTER/ R.I.P.". Behind the parents' monument lie the GRAVE MARKERS of a related married couple, two sandstone grave slabs placed against each other, which are "connected" by a continuous sculptured branch in high relief and both are provided with a family coat of arms also executed in high relief. The left coat of arms consists of a heraldic shield with three chevrons, a helm with feathered crest and as supporters two lions. The right slab has a coat of arms consisting of a heraldic shield with a wing, a crown and a helm with feathered crest and two lions as supporters. Of the inscription on the left slab only the words "HERE REST" have been preserved, the rest has faded. The inscription on the right slab reads: "HERE REST/ LADY LOUISA JULIANA FRANCISCA/ ANTOINETTA BARONESS VAN DER HEYDEN TOT BAAK/ SPOUSE/ OF .AA..
