Inleiding
Het KANTOORGEBOUW werd in het vierde kwart van de 19e eeuw gebouwd in de stijl van het Eclectiscisme. De voorgevel maakt deel uit van de gesloten gevelwand langs de Merwekade. De Merwekade werd aangelegd tussen 1862 en 1865 en deed dienst als aanlegplaats voor sleepboten, kolen-, vracht- en passagiersschepen. De voorgevels van de panden aan de Merwekade zijn op het noorden gericht en kijken uit op het punt waar de rivieren de Oude Maas, de Noord en de Beneden Merwede samenkomen. De Merwekade ligt binnen het beschermd stadsgezicht van Dordrecht.
Het interieur van het pand is ingrijpend gewijzigd. De gevel is voorzien van een niet-originele spuitbetonlaag. De voordeur is vernieuwd.
Omschrijving
Vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken pand bestaande uit drie bouwlagen onder plat dak. De gepleisterde gevel boven een gepleisterde hardstenen plint wordt afgesloten door een kroonlijst. Vensters en deuren met getoogde glas-in-lood bovenlichten met daarin gebrandschilderde medaillons.
Links op de begane grond de entree bestaande uit een deur met bovenlicht. Rechts daarnaast drie vensters, waarbij het rechter venster wat smaller is. Op de verdieping in het midden een houten balkon op drie houten consoles, die voorzien zijn van siersnijwerk. De balkonbalustrade bestaat uit een houten handlijst en houten hoekbalusters met daartussen een siersmeedijzeren hek.
Twee paar openslaande deuren met ruit en bovenlicht geven toegang tot het balkon. Boven deze deuren is een gestucte lijst aangebracht met een palmet in het midden.
Een cordonlijst scheidt de eerste van de tweede verdieping. Op de tweede verdieping twee rondboogvormige bifora, waarvan de middenstijlen bovenaan voorzien zijn van een ornament.
Waardering
Het kantoorgebouw is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde: de gevels van de panden aan de Merwekade zijn een uitdrukking van een economische ontwikkeling binnen de aan de scheepvaart verwante bedrijfstakken.

The OFFICE BUILDING was built in the fourth quarter of the 19th century in the style of Eclecticism. The front facade forms part of the closed facade wall along the Merwekade. The Merwekade was laid out between 1862 and 1865 and served as a mooring place for tugboats, coal, freight and passenger ships. The front facades of the buildings on the Merwekade face north and look out over the point where the rivers the Oude Maas, the Noord and the Beneden Merwede converge. The Merwekade lies within the protected townscape of Dordrecht.
The interior of the building has undergone extensive alterations. The facade is provided with a non-original sprayed concrete layer. The front door has been renewed.
Description
A building built from a rectangular floor plan consisting of three storeys under a flat roof. The plastered facade above a plastered hardstone plinth is finished with a cornice. Windows and doors with arched stained glass fanlights with painted medallions.
On the left of the ground floor the entrance consisting of a door with fanlight. To the right of it three windows, with the right window being somewhat narrower. On the upper storey in the centre a wooden balcony on three wooden consoles, which are provided with ornamental carving. The balcony balustrade consists of a wooden handrail and wooden corner balusters with a decorative wrought-iron railing between them.
Two pairs of casement doors with panes and fanlight give access to the balcony. Above these doors a stuccoed string course is applied with a palmette in the centre.
