Inleiding
Het WOONHUIS werd in vierde kwart van de 19e eeuw in Eclecticistische stijl gebouwd. De voorgevel maakt onderdeel uit van de gesloten gevelwand langs de Merwekade. De Merwekade werd aangelegd tussen 1862 en 1865 en deed dienst als aanlegplaats voor sleepboten, kolen-, vracht- en passagiersschepen. De voorgevels van de panden aan de Merwekade zijn op het noorden gericht en kijken uit op het punt waar de rivieren de Oude Maas, de Noord en de Beneden Merwede samenkomen. De Merwekade ligt binnen het beschermd stadsgezicht van Dordrecht.
Het interieur van het pand is ingrijpend gewijzigd. De deuren zijn niet origineel.
Omschrijving
Vanuit een vrijwel rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken woonhuis bestaande uit drie bouwlagen onder thans met sneldekkers gedekt zadeldak met nokrichting evenwijdig aan de kade, en met links en rechts een schoorsteen. De gepleisterde gevel is vier traveeën breed en wordt afgesloten door een kroonlijst. Twee cordonlijsten zorgen voor de horizontale geleding van de gevel. De getoogde vensters met schuiframen liggen iets verdiept in een geprofileerde omlijsting. De vensters op de verdiepingen zijn voorzien van glas-in-lood bovenlichten. Rondom de bovenlichten een getoogde profiellijst van stucwerk, die op de verdiepingen op kraagstenen rust.
In de voorgevel links op de begane grond een smal venster. Rechts daarnaast in een brede travee de entree, bestaande uit een hardstenen stoep en dubbele deuren met een tweeruits getoogd bovenlicht, waarvan de middenstijl wordt gevormd door een halfzuiltje. Rechts twee gekoppelde vensters met tussenstijl in de vorm van een Korintische pilaster. Aan weerszijden van de vensters lisenen, waarboven de getoogde stucprofiellijsten om de bovenlichten beginnen.
Op de verdieping boven de entree een houten balkon op twee gietijzeren consoles. De balkonbalustrade bestaat uit houten hoekbalusters met een houten handlijst, waar siersmeedijzeren spijlen in zijn aangebracht. Openslaande deuren met een stolpnaald in de vorm van een halfzuiltje geven toegang tot het balkon. Ook het bovenlicht is voorzien van een deelzuiltje. Links van het balkon één en rechts twee vensters. Onder deze vensters een verdiept spaarveld met een profiellijst.
Op de tweede verdieping boven het balkon een getoogd blindvenster, eveneens voorzien van een profiellijst. Links van de nis één en rechts twee vensters.
De kroonlijst is voorzien van consoles die de gootlijst ondersteunen.

Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde: de gevels van de panden aan de Merwekade zijn een uitdrukking van een economische ontwikkeling binnen de aan de scheepvaart verwante bedrijfstakken.

The RESIDENTIAL HOUSE was built in the fourth quarter of the 19th century in Eclectic style. The front facade forms part of the closed facade wall along the Merwekade. Description
A residential house built from an almost rectangular floor plan consisting of three storeys under a gabled roof now covered with roof tiles with ridge direction parallel to the quay, and with a chimney on the left and right. The plastered facade is four bays wide and is finished with a cornice. Two string courses provide horizontal articulation of the facade. The arched windows with sash frames are set slightly recessed in a moulded frame. The windows on the upper storeys are provided with stained glass fanlights. Around the fanlights an arched stucco moulding, which on the upper storeys rests on corbels.
In the front facade on the left of the ground floor a narrow window. To the right of it in a wide bay the entrance, consisting of a hardstone step and double doors with a two-paned arched fanlight, the centre mullion of which is formed by a half-column. On the right two coupled windows with a centre post in the form of a Corinthian pilaster. Lisenes on either side of the windows, above which the arched stucco mouldings around the fanlights begin.
On the upper storey above the entrance a wooden balcony on two cast-iron consoles. The balcony balustrade consists of wooden corner balusters with a wooden handrail, in which decorative wrought-iron balusters are set. Casement doors with a supporting post in the form of a half-column give access to the balcony. The fanlight is also provided with a half-column. One window on the left and two on the right. Below these windows a recessed spandrel with a moulding.
On the second storey above the balcony an arched blind window, also provided with a moulding. One window on the left and two on the right.
The cornice is provided with consoles which support the gutter line.
