Inleiding
Ensemble van 7 HERENHUIZEN uit circa 1874 in de stijl van het Eclecticisme. De woningen waren bedoeld voor medisch specialisten die een praktijk aan huis nodig hadden (souterrain). De geschakelde woningen vormen een beeldbepalende gevelwand aan de Singel in de negentiende-eeuwse schil van Dordrecht.
Omschrijving
Ensemble van zeven, in oorsprong identieke, gepleisterde herenhuizen met een rechthoekige plattegrond en twee bouwlagen en een kaplaag boven een hoog souterrain. Het pleisterwerk is verlevendigd met een hoge plint met schijnvoegen en met geprofileerde cordonlijsten. Elk pand heeft een schilddak met aan de voorzijde in oorsprong twee dakramen. Kroonlijst met geornamenteerde consoles.
Het blok heeft getoogde T-vensters met houten kozijnen en met glas-in-lood in de bovenlichten en geprofileerde raamomlijstingen. De drieassige voorgevels hebben rechts een hoge, dubbele voordeur met gietijzeren roosters voor het glas, een getoogd bovenlicht met glas-in-lood en een halfronde stolpnaald. Het souterrain heeft twee liggende ramen. Op de verdieping in het midden een balkon met openslaande deuren. Het balkon heeft een gepleisterde onderplaat met geprofileerde randen, die op consoles met ingekerfde bladmotieven rust. Opengewerkt smeedijzeren balkonhek tussen twee gepleisterde hoekbalusters. Ter hoogte van de verdiepingsvloer een licht uitspringende horizontale band gevat tussen twee cordonlijsten.
De zijgevels van het blok zijn eveneens gepleisterd met schijnvoegen. In de linker zijgevel (nr. 224) bevindt zich geheel rechts een T-venster en een souterrainraam, op de verdieping een T-venster en een schuifraam. De rechterzijgevel (nr. 236) is blind.
Aan de achterzijde per woning een souterraindeur met raampartij en een trapje naar de tuin. Op de begane grond een serre en op de verdieping een balkon.
In het interieur hebben de meeste huizen de hoofdindeling bewaard waarbij vanuit het tochtportaal rechts een trap naar het souterrain en links een trap naar de bel-etage voert. Centraal in de woning bevindt zich nog een trap tussen souterrain en bel-etage. De meeste woningen beschikken over een aantal originele interieuronderdelen zoals stucplafonds met reliëfstukken, schuifdeuren in de kamers-en-suite of een bovenlicht in het trappenhuis.

Description
Ensemble of seven, originally identical, plastered town houses with a rectangular floor plan and two storeys and a roof level above a high basement. The plasterwork is enlivened with a high plinth with false joints and with profiled cornice bands. Each property has a hipped roof with originally two roof windows at the front. Cornice with ornamented consoles.
The block has arched T-windows with wooden frames and with leaded glass in the fanlights and profiled window mouldings. The three-bay front façades have on the right a tall, double front door with cast-iron grilles for the glass, an arched fanlight with leaded glass and a half-round door knocker. The basement has two horizontal windows. On the storey in the middle a balcony with folding doors. The balcony has a plastered underplate with profiled edges, which rests on consoles with incised leaf motifs. Open wrought-iron balcony railing between two plastered corner balusters. At the level of the storey floor a slightly projecting horizontal band set between two cornice bands.
The side façades of the block are also plastered with false joints. In the left side façade (no. 224) is located on the far right a T-window and a basement window, on the storey a T-window and a sash frame. The right-hand side façade (no. 236) is blind.
On the rear side for each dwelling a basement door with window section and a small staircase to the garden. On the ground floor a conservatory and on the storey a balcony.
In the interior most of the houses have retained the main layout whereby from the draught vestibule to the right a staircase to the basement and to the left a staircase to the piano nobile leads. Centrally in the dwelling there is still a staircase between basement and piano nobile. Most dwellings have a number of original interior components such as stucco ceilings with relief ornaments, sliding doors in the interconnecting rooms or a fanlight in the stairwell.

Nineteenth century ensemble of seven, originally identical town houses in Eclectic style of general importance from an architectural and cultural-historical point of view, as well as because of ensemble value as an image-defining element in the Singel development.
