Inleiding
Vrijstaand houten PAKHUIS 'De Schepel' opgetrokken in ambachtelijk traditionele trant. Het oorspronkelijke pakhuis, behorende bij oliemolen 'De Schepel' is in 1875, na de sloop van de molen, vernieuwd. Het met de lange gevel direct aan de Zaan gelegen pakhuis maakt deel uit van het gevarieerde industriële landschap langs de Zaanoevers waarin voedsel-, olie- en houtindustrie domineerden en het vervoer over water een essentiële vestigingsvoorwaarde was. Het pakhuis doet nog steeds dienst als opslagruimte en vormt een ensemble met de ten westen ervan gelegen pakhuizen 'Maas' (Veerdijk 23) en 'Waal' (Veerdijk 24).
Omschrijving
Het pakhuis is op een rechthoekige plattegrond, in gepotdekselde geteerde delen opgetrokken rond een houtskelet onder een met rode oude holle pannen gedekt zadeldak met windveren en ijzeren daklichten. De noordzijde aan de Veerdijk heeft in het midden een dubbele deur, geflankeerd door twee paar liggende tweeruits vensters. De zuidzijde heeft dezelfde gevelindeling, maar met drieruits vensters. De oostzijde heeft beneden twee liggende tweeruits vensters en op de zolder een dubbele deur met twee tweeruits bovenlichten. De westzijde heeft beneden twee tweeruits vensters en twee gekoppelde tweeruits vensters in de top.
De inwendige constructie bevat een eenvoudig driebeukig houtskelet van vierkante standvinken en balken waarop een zoldervloer is gelegen.
Waardering
Uit 1875 daterend pakhuis 'De Schepel' van algemeen belang wegens cultuurhistorische en industrieel-archeologische waarde als kenmerkend en zeldzaam geworden voorbeeld van een laat negentiende-eeuws houten opslaggebouw ten behoeve van de vanouds langs de Zaanoever geconcentreerde olie- en levensmiddelenindustrie, uit de ontwikkelingsfase waarin van wind- op stoomkracht werd overgeschakeld. Het in hoofdvorm en detaillering vrij gaaf bewaarde pakhuis heeft tevens ensemblewaarde wegens de historisch-functionele en ruimtelijke samenhang met de twee naastgelegen pakhuizen Veerdijk 23 en 24 en de olie- en graanverwerkende industriegebouwen, die voor transport aan de Zaan waren gebonden.

Freestanding timber WAREHOUSE 'De Schepel' built in craftsman traditional manner. The original warehouse, belonging to oil mill 'De Schepel', was renewed in 1875 following the demolition of the mill. Description
The warehouse is built on a rectangular plan, in pitched and tarred sections around a timber skeleton under a gabled roof covered with red old hollow tiles with wind vanes and iron roof lights. The north side on the Veerdijk has in the centre a double door, flanked by two pairs of horizontal two-light windows. The south side has the same facade arrangement, but with three-light windows. The east side has below two horizontal two-light windows and on the upper storey a double door with two two-light fanlights. The west side has below two two-light windows and two coupled two-light windows in the gable.
The internal construction contains a simple three-aisle timber skeleton of square posts and beams on which a floor is laid.
Valuation
Warehouse 'De Schepel' dating from 1875 of general importance for its cultural-historical and industrial-archaeological value as a characteristic and rare example of a late nineteenth-century timber storage building for the oil and foodstuffs industry historically concentrated along the Zaan bank, from the development phase in which the transition was made from wind to steam power. The warehouse, preserved in reasonably good condition in its main form and detailing, also has ensemble value because of the historical-functional and spatial coherence with the two adjacent warehouses at Veerdijk 23 and 24 and the oil and grain processing industrial buildings, which were dependent on the Zaan for transport.
