Inleiding
Aan de zuidzijde van de Dubbelebuurt gesitueerde VILLA, gebouwd in 1885, waarschijnlijk voor opdrachtgever uit handel of industrie, in de stijl van de neo-renaissance.
NB De na 1945 gerealiseerde uitbreiding op de begane grond aan de achterzijde is voor bescherming van ondergeschikt belang.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan gebouwde villa bestaande uit twee bouwlagen onder kap met plat waarvan de schilden zijn bedekt met zwarte kruispannen. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in rode baksteen in kruisverband op een natuurstenen plint. Het muurwerk is rijk gedecoreerd, onder meer met gepleisterde lisenen, cordonlijsten, borstweringen en speklagen.
De symmetrische voorgevel is een lijstgevel met middenrisaliet waarin, in een portiek, de voordeur met zijlichten en een halfrond bovenlicht zijn opgenomen. De deur heeft een smeedijzeren raamrooster met daarin de letters P.H. Voor de deur ligt een natuurstenen stoep met ernaast een in de muur gemetselde steen met de tekst 'H.P. Pieper oud 2 jaar 21-8-83'. Boven de deur een fries met een hoogreliëf van kinderen in de weer met een vijzel en tonnen. De verdieping heeft een T-venster tussen gecanneleerde lisenen. Boven dit venster is een aedicula motief met fronton waarin het jaartal 1885. Boven de kroonlijst wordt de middenrisaliet afgesloten door een dakkapel met wangen en een fronton. Aan weerszijden van deze middenrisaliet hebben begane grond en eerste etage twee vensters: schuifvensters op de begane grond en stolpramen met bovenlicht op de verdieping.
De linkerzijgevel heeft op de begane grond links een driezijdige erker met een schuifvenster in elke zijde en rechts daarvan twee (vernieuwde) vensters. De eerste etage telt vier T-schuifvensters. Tussen de eerste en tweede van links bevindt zich een halfronde boognis met daarin een staand vrouwenbeeld met een tandwiel, een personificatie van de arbeid. Halverwege de gevel bevindt zich op beide bouwlagen een gepleisterde pilaster. De rechterzijgevel heeft op de begane grond links een dubbel raam met bovenlicht en rechts een raam en een deur met bovenlicht. Op de eerste etage bevindt zich links een groot venster en rechts een klein wc-raam. De achtergevel bestaat uit twee delen. Het rechter deel risaleert en heeft op de eerste etage twee schuifvensters.
Waardering
Villa in de stijl van de neo-renaisance van algemeen belang wegens cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als rijk en gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van laat negentiende-eeuwse villabouw. De villa heeft situationele waarde vanwege de ruimtelijke relatie met de Zaan en de daarmee samenhangende historisch-functionele relatie met de Zaanse industrie.

Description
A villa built on a rectangular ground plan consisting of two storeys under a roof with a flat section of which the slopes are covered with black cross tiles. The facades are built up in red brick in cross bond on a natural stone plinth. The masonry is richly decorated, including with plastered pilasters, band mouldings, parapets and stone bed joints.
The symmetrical front facade is a cornice-topped facade with a central risalit in which, in a portico, the front door with side lights and a semicircular fanlight are accommodated. The door has a wrought iron window grille with the letters P.H. in it. In front of the door is a natural stone step with beside it a stone set into the wall bearing the text 'H.P. Pieper oud 2 jaar 21-8-83'. Above the door a frieze with a high relief of children at work with a pump and barrels. The first floor has a T-window between fluted pilasters. Above this window is an aedicula motif with a pediment in which the year 1885. Above the cornice the central risalit is terminated by a gabled roof dormer with cheeks and a pediment. On either side of this central risalit the ground floor and first floor each have two windows: sash windows on the ground floor and pivot windows with fanlight on the first floor.
The left side gable has on the ground floor on the left a three-sided bay window with a sash window in each side and to the right of it two (renewed) windows. The first floor has four T-sash windows. Between the first and second from the left is a semicircular arch niche in which is a standing female figure with a cogwheel, a personification of labour. Halfway along the gable on both storeys is a plastered pilaster. The right side gable has on the ground floor on the left a double window with fanlight and on the right a window and a door with fanlight. On the first floor is on the left a large window and on the right a small lavatory window. The rear facade consists of two parts. The right part projects and has on the first floor two sash windows.
Valuation
Villa in the style of neo-Renaissance of general interest because of its cultural and architectural-historical value as a richly and well-preserved example of late nineteenth-century villa construction. The villa has situational value because of its spatial relationship with the Zaan and the associated historical-functional relationship with Zaan industry.
