Inleiding
Benzinestation, gesitueerd aan de westzijde van de uitvalsweg van 's-Hertogenbosch naar het zuiden, richting Vught. Het benzinestation is in hoofdopzet symmetrisch en dateert uit 1933; het werd opgetrokken in baksteen, gewapend beton, glas en staal naar ontwerp van architect A.V.J.M. Meylink (1896-1977). Als opdrachtgever fungeerde aardoliemaatschappij Shell, later was het benzinestation in gebruik bij aardoliemaatschappij Q8.
Omschrijving
Platgedekt, onderkelderd benzinestation, voorzien van doorrit, wachtruimte en bedieningsruimte op de begane grond en een woning met balkon en omloop op de verdieping. De draagconstructie is uitgevoerd in gewapend beton en bestaat uit vier achtzijdige kolommen die de zogeheten paddestoelvloer van de verdieping dragen. Het benzinestation heeft aan de straatzijde (oost) een doorrit tussen de vier kolommen die op twee pompeilanden staan, de verdiepingsvloer fungeert hier tevens als luifel. De twee halfrond beëindigde pompeilanden zijn beide afgezet met hoekijzers (als opsluitbanden) en belegd met vierkante, dubbelhard gebakken tegeltjes. Meer naar de Bosscheweg bevinden zich nog twee identiek uitgevoerde pompeilanden. Waar de begane grond wegens de afwikkeling van de cliëntèle een open karakter bezit, vertoont de verdieping een geslotener aanzien. Een stalen wenteltrap tegen de noordgevel verbindt de begane grond met de verdieping. De dakranden hebben alom een ruim overstek. De binnenwanden zijn op beide bouwlagen van baksteen, de vensters en deuren zijn voorzien van stalen kozijnen en ramen. In 1950 is de wachtruimte op de begane grond verbouwd tot snackbar, hetgeen enkele kleine interne wijzigingen tot gevolg had.
Waardering
Het benzinestation uit 1933 aan de Bosscheweg 1 te 's-Hertogenbosch naar ontwerp van architect A.V. J.M. Meylink bezit algemeen belang op basis van:
- de hoge mate van ouderdom;
- de hoge mate van zeldzaamheid;
- de hoge mate van gaafheid;
- de architectuurhistorische betekenis, als karakteristiek voorbeeld van het Nieuwe Bouwen ;
- de bouwhistorische waarde, met name wegens toepassing van gewapend beton, glas en staal, met een markante verschijningsvorm als resultaat;
- de vooruitgangsidee die in het geavanceerde ontwerp besloten ligt en als symbolisch voor de periode van het beginnend automobilisme in de eerste helft van de 20ste eeuw kan worden aangemerkt;
- de situering terzijde van de weg 's-Hertogenbosch - Vught als gevolg waarvan de historische belevings- en herkenningswaarden behouden zijn gebleven, mede dankzij een aanzienlijk deel van de boombeplanting langs het oude tracé.

Petrol station, situated on the west side of the exit road from 's-Hertogenbosch towards the south, in the direction of Vught. The petrol station is symmetrical in its basic concept and dates from 1933; it was erected in brick, reinforced concrete, glass and steel according to the design of architect A.V.J.M. Meylink (1896-1977). The oil company Shell acted as client; later the petrol station was used by oil company Q8.
Description
Flat-roofed, part-basemeneted petrol station, provided with a drive-through, waiting room and service room on the ground floor and a dwelling with balcony and landing on the upper floor. The load-bearing structure is executed in reinforced concrete and consists of four octagonal columns which support the so-called mushroom floor of the upper storey. The petrol station has a drive-through on the street side (east) between the four columns which stand on two pump islands, the upper floor slab serving here also as a canopy. The two half-round ended pump islands are both bordered with angle iron (as kerb strips) and laid with square, hard-fired tiles. Further towards the Bosscheweg there are two more identically executed pump islands. Whereas the ground floor has an open character due to the handling of the clientele, the upper floor has a more enclosed appearance. A steel spiral staircase against the north gable connects the ground floor with the upper floor. The roof edges have ample overhangs all around. The interior walls are brick on both storeys, the windows and doors are provided with steel frames and sashes. In 1950 the waiting room on the ground floor was converted into a snack bar, which resulted in some minor internal alterations.
Valuation
The petrol station from 1933 at Bosscheweg 1 in 's-Hertogenbosch, designed by architect A.V.J.M. Meylink, is of general interest on the basis of:
