Inleiding
OPHAALBRUG, onderdeel van het sluiscomplex in het rond 1650 verlengde havenkanaal van Strijen. In dat jaar werd het havenkanaal verlengd tot aan het huidige Strijensas, waar het kanaal ten behoeve van de scheepvaart werd voorzien van een sas (schutsluis). De oude waterkering werd in 1848 vervangen door de huidige schutsluis, die is voorzien van vier paar sluisdeuren. De in een Traditioneel-ambachtelijke stijl uitgevoerde, uit giet- en welijzeren delen samengestelde, dubbele ijzeren OPHAALBRUG over de sluiskolk verving in 1908 zijn houten voorganger. Ten tijde van de bouw van de brug stond er een inmiddels verdwenen dieselgemaal bij het complex.
Omschrijving
De over de kolk van de schutsluis liggende dubbele ophaalbrug verbindt de Buitendijk met de Sassedijk. De twee tegenover elkaar staande, spiegelbeeldig identieke brugdelen vormen een symmetrisch geheel. De volwandige stijlen van de hameipoorten zijn van geklinknageld profielijzer. Ze zijn met elkaar verbonden door volwandige, gietijzeren hameipoorten met rondboogvormige doorgang en eenvoudige geometrische decoraties en het jaartal 1908 in reliëf. De eveneens uit volwandige, geklinknagelde delen samengestelde, aan de uiteinden afgeronde en zich naar de voorzijde toe verjongende balanspriemen zijn met elkaar verbonden door de broekbalk en rechte en geknikte koppelbalken. De hameistijlen zijn extra met de landhoofden verbonden door dubbele stangen, die bevestigd zijn aan hardstenen blokken. De vallen zijn door middel van kettingen aan de balanspriemen bevestigd en zijn voorzien van grendels aan de voorharren. De zorgkettingen tussen de hameistijlen en de vallen vormen een extra beveiliging tegen het doorslaan. De op stalen balken liggende houten brugdekken zijn aan weerszijden voorzien van ijzeren hekwerken.

HOIST BRIDGE, component of the lock complex in the harbour channel of Strijen extended around 1650. In that year the harbour channel was extended to the current Strijensas, where the channel was provided with a lock (lock chamber) for the benefit of shipping. The old water barrier was replaced in 1848 by the current lock, which is equipped with four pairs of lock gates. The double iron HOIST BRIDGE, executed in a Traditional-craft style and composed of cast-iron and wrought-iron parts, over the lock chamber replaced in 1908 its wooden predecessor. At the time of the construction of the bridge there was a diesel pumping station, now disappeared, at the complex.
Description
The double hoist bridge spanning the lock chamber of the lock connects the Buitendijk with the Sassedijk. The two opposing, mirror-image identical bridge sections form a symmetrical whole. The solid stiles of the hamei gates are of riveted profile iron. They are connected to each other by solid, cast-iron hamei gates with round-arched opening and simple geometric decorations and the year 1908 in relief. The wooden bridge decks resting on steel beams are provided on both sides with iron railings.
