Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Iron TRAM BRIDGE over the Vlaardingervaart, of the type lattice arch bridge with tie rod, built by Werkspoor Amsterdam in 1912 on behalf of the Westlandsche Stoomtram Maatschappij. This company was established primarily for the transport of Westland horticultural products to railway stations. The original infrastructure has disappeared but the tram station of Schipluiden, comparable to the equally still-existing tram station of Naaldwijk, is still present. The bridge was in use for tram traffic until 1968 and nowadays serves as a cycle bridge.
Description
Tram bridge of the type lattice arch bridge with tie rods, constructed entirely in rolled and riveted iron and steel, with a span of 60 metres. The bridge consists of double, truncated parabolic girders, with rivet connections, and girders in the form of I-sections with lattice work between them. Between the two parabolic girders are diagonal lattice girders. The deck girders are attached to the upper arch by hangers.
