Inleiding
Voormalig CAFÉ met BOVENWONING, 1901, gekenmerkt door decoratief gestucte gevels in Eclectische trant. Het pand is halfvrijstaand gesitueerd in het bebouwingslint van de Heigank.
Het pand werd in 1955 verbouwd. De woonhuisentree in de middenas van de gevel aan de straatzijde werd vervangen door een vensterkozijn. De interieurindeling van de eerste bouwlaag werd gewijzigd. Een deel van de gang achter de entree en de zitkamer rechts van deze gang werden bij het café getrokken. De wand tussen het café en de gang werd om die reden gedeeltelijk verwijderd.
In 1995 werd het pand geheel gerenoveerd, waarbij onder meer de dakconstructie geheel werd vernieuwd en de gevels werden overgeschilderd.
Alle aanbouwen achter het twee bouwlagen tellende hoofdvolume onder schilddak zijn UITGESLOTEN van bescherming.
Omschrijving
Het voormalige cafépand met bovenwoning heeft een gedeeltelijke souterrainverdieping, twee BOUWLAGEN plus een zolderverdieping en is gebouwd op een in hoofdvorm rechthoekige PLATTEGROND met afgeschuinde hoekpartij. Het geheel wordt gedekt door een SCHILDDAK met betonpannen en enkele recente dakvensters. Aanzienlijk tuimelraam op het achterdakvlak. De topgevel boven de afgeschuinde hoekpartij is ingestoken op het schilddak. De goten zijn met trespa bekleed.
Zowel segment- als rondboogvormige houten VENSTERS en DEUREN. Geheel gepleisterde gevels met stucornamenten. Hardstenen traptreden. De GEVEL aan de straatzijde telt drie vensterassen, de ZIJGEVEL twee vensterassen. In de eerste laag, boven de geprofileerde plint met profiellijst, segmentboogvormige houten vensters met glas-in-lood bovenlicht. De vensters zijn voorzien van een gedeeltelijke stucomlijsting met kuif. Tussen de vensters van de eerste laag een speklaag met stucornamenten. Tussen de eerste en tweede bouwlaag een gestucte waterlijst. In de tweede laag zijn segmentboogvormige houten T-vensters geplaatst. Gedeeltelijke vensteromlijstingen met kuiven, uitgevoerd in decoratief stucwerk. Tussen waterlijst en vensterdorpels decoratief gestucte kaderornamenten. Voor- en zijgevel hebben in de tweede laag een gestucte hoekliseen.
De afgeschuinde HOEKPARTIJ telt één vensteras. In de eerste laag een dubbele, rondboogvormig houten entreedeur met bovenlicht. De deuren zijn voorzien van niet-authentiek geel glas en recent smeedwerk. Het bovenlicht met glas-in-lood heeft een zonnestraalvormige indeling. Rondom het bovenlicht een decoratief gestucte lijst met kaderornamenten. Op de gevelhoeken aan weerszijden van de entreedeur bevinden zich gestucte pilasters met canneluremotieven. Deze pilasters lopen uit in de decoratief gestucte consoles, die het balkon in de tweede laag ondersteunen.
Het balkon van de tweede bouwlaag is toegankelijk via een segmentboogvormige dubbele houten balkondeur met bovenlicht. Het balkon heeft een borstwering met gedecoreerde ruitvormige balusters. Boven de balkondeur een gestucte sluitsteen met guirlandes alsmede een segmentboogvormige waterlijst. Aan weerszijden van de balkondeur decoratief gestucte hoeklisenen, doorlopend in de in- en uitzwenkende topgevel met pionbekroning. In deze topgevel een segmentboogvormig houten T-venster.
De achtergevel, waarvan slechts de tweede bouwlaag zichtbaar is, is geheel wit gepleisterd en onregelmatig ingedeeld. Drie rechthoekige vensters, waarvan één met rolluik.
De INTERIEURindeling van de eerste bouwlaag weerspiegelt de in 1955 aangepaste situatie. In het voormalige café-gedeelte is nog een stucplafond met kooflijsten en rozetten aanwezig. De indeling van de tweede bouwlaag is vrijwel intact bewaard gebleven. De zolderverdieping heeft een nieuwe indeling.
Waardering
Het voormalige café met bovenwoning aan de Heigank te Nieuwenhagen is van architectuurhistorische waarde en vertegenwoordigt algemeen belang vanwege de in de stucwerkornamentiek tot uiting komende Eclectische bouwtrant en de esthetische kwaliteit van de gevels. Het pand is van betekenis voor het aanzien van de gemeente Landgraaf, heeft een in redelijke mate gaaf bewaard gebleven exterieur en beschikt over een bijzondere streekgebonden architectuurhistorische zeldzaamheidswaarde. Het pand getuigt daarbij in zijn ornamentiek van een internationale stylistische beïnvloeding.

Former CAFÉ with UPPER DWELLING, 1901, characterised by decoratively stuccoed facades in Eclectic style. The building is semi-detached, situated in the building line of the Heigank.
The building was renovated in 1955. The residential entrance in the central axis of the street-facing facade was replaced by a window frame. The interior layout of the first storey was altered. Part of the corridor behind the entrance and the sitting room to the right of this corridor were incorporated into the café. The wall between the café and the corridor was partly removed for this reason.
In 1995 the building was completely renovated, whereby the roof truss structure was entirely renewed and the facades were repainted.

Description
The former café building with upper dwelling has a partial basement storey, two STOREYS plus an attic storey and is built on a basically rectangular GROUND PLAN with chamfered corner section. The whole is covered by a HIPPED ROOF with concrete tiles and some recent roof lights. Considerable skylight on the rear roof plane. The gable above the chamfered corner section is set back on the hipped roof. The gutters are clad with trespa.
Both segmental and round-arched wooden WINDOWS and DOORS. Completely rendered facades with stucco ornaments. Hardstone steps. The FACADE facing the street has three window bays, the SIDE FACADE two window bays. On the first storey, above the profiled plinth with moulding, segmental-arched wooden windows with leaded light fanlight. The windows are provided with partial stucco moulding with hood moulding. Between the windows of the first storey a course with stucco ornaments. Between the first and second storey a stuccoed drip moulding. On the second storey segmental-arched wooden T-windows have been installed. Partial window mouldings with hood mouldings, executed in decorative stucco. Between drip moulding and window sills decoratively stuccoed frame ornaments. Front and side facade have on the second storey a stuccoed corner lisene.
The chamfered CORNER SECTION has one window bay. On the first storey a double, round-arched wooden entrance door with fanlight. The doors are provided with non-authentic yellow glass and recent wrought ironwork. The fanlight with leaded light has a sunburst arrangement. Around the fanlight a decoratively stuccoed moulding with frame ornaments. On the facade corners on either side of the entrance door there are stuccoed pilasters with fluting motifs. These pilasters terminate in decoratively stuccoed consoles, which support the balcony on the second storey.
The balcony of the second storey is accessible via a segmental-arched double wooden balcony door with fanlight. The balcony has a parapet wall with decorated diamond-shaped balusters. Above the balcony door a stuccoed keystone with garlands as well as a segmental-arched drip moulding. On either side of the balcony door decoratively stuccoed corner lisenes, continuing in the in- and out-swinging top gable with arrow point crown. In this top gable a segmental-arched wooden T-window.
The rear facade, of which only the second storey is visible, is completely rendered white and irregularly arranged. Three rectangular windows, one of which with roller shutter.
The INTERIOR layout of the first storey reflects the situation adapted in 1955. In the former café section a stucco ceiling with cove moulding and rosettes is still present. The layout of the second storey has been preserved virtually intact. The attic storey has a new layout.
Valuation
The former café with upper dwelling on the Heigank in Nieuwenhagen is of architectural-historical value and represents general interest because of the Eclectic building style expressed in the stucco ornamental work and the aesthetic quality of the facades. The building is of significance for the appearance of the municipality of Landgraaf, has an exterior that has been preserved in a reasonable state of authenticity and possesses particular regional architectural-historical rarity value. The building testifies through its ornamental work to international stylistic influence.
