Inleiding
WOONHUIS met WINKEL, gebouwd in 1926 door A.L. Pastijn (Turnhout). Het huis werd gebouwd in Ambachtelijk-Traditionele vormen met zuidelijke inslag in opdracht van een sigarenfabrikant. Direkt aan het huis grenzend ligt een winkel. Beide hebben nog de oorspronkelijke funktie. De achter het huis gelegen fabriek is inmiddels verdwenen en vervangen door een modern bouwblok. Het geheel ligt op de hoek van de Singel met het Kerkplein.
Omschrijving
Tweelaags huis, drie traveeën breed, op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder zadeldak waarvan de nok evenwijdig aan de straat loopt. Het huis is uitgevoerd in baksteen, voorzien van een natuurstenen plint en speklagen ter hoogte van de onder-, wissel- en bovendorpel van de ramen. Het dak is gedekt met leien. De voorgevel heeft een houten lijst met consoles met peerkraal. De consoles steken onder de lijst uit tot op een natuurstenen cordonlijst. De dubbele paneeldeur bevindt zich in het midden van de voorgevel en heeft een bovenlicht met smalle roeden. Voor de deur ligt een hardstenen tegel en opstapje. Aan weerszijden van de deur bevinden zich ramen voorzien van houten rolluiken, in de bovenlichten is een verdeling met smalle roeden als in het bovenlicht van de deur aangebracht. Op de verdieping drie dezelfde ramen. Boven ramen en deur zijn natuurstenen lateien geplaatst, net boven de hoogte van de speklagen. In de strekken daarboven is een natuurstenen sluitsteen aangebracht.
Tegen de linkerzijgevel is de winkel gebouwd als een éénlaags blok onder plat dak. De achtergevel van de winkel ligt tegen het huis, de linkerzijgevel tegen de nieuwbouw op de plaats van de voormalige fabriek. In beide gevels is een breed etalage-raam met drie getoogde bovenlichten geplaatst, de bovenlichten zijn gevuld met glas-in-lood. In de gevel aan de zijde van het Kerkplein zitten twee deuren, waarbij de deur van de slijterij eveneens met smal getoogd bovenlicht is uitgevoerd.
In het interieur zijn de indeling en inrichting in oorspronkelijke staat bewaard gebleven. Achter de deur strekt zich een centrale gang met marmeren lambrisering uit. Deze gang komt uit bij de keuken met onder andere een tegelvloer. Rechts van de gang een kamer-en-suite, links een kleine kamer en doorgang naar de winkel die doorloopt tot in de nieuwbouw.
Een houten trap leidt naar de verdieping waar zich vier kamers bevinden. Elementen uit het oorspronkelijk interieur zijn verder onder andere de paneeldeuren in geprofileerde omlijstingen.

Het woonhuis annex winkel is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het winkelwoonhuis. RESIDENTIAL HOUSE with SHOP, built in 1926 by A.L. Pastijn (Turnhout). The house was built in Craft-Traditional forms with southern influence on the commission of a cigar manufacturer. Description
Two-storey house, three bays wide, on a rectangular floor plan under a gabled roof whose ridge runs parallel to the street. The house is executed in brick, provided with a natural stone plinth and stone courses at the height of the under-, mid- and upper mullions of the windows. The roof is covered with slate. The front facade has a wooden cornice with consoles with pearl moulding. The consoles project beneath the cornice to a natural stone string course. The double panel door is located in the centre of the front facade and has a fanlight with narrow glazing bars. In front of the door lies a hardstone tile and step. On either side of the door are windows provided with wooden shutters, in the fanlights a division with narrow glazing bars as in the fanlight of the door is applied. On the upper storey three identical windows. Above windows and door natural stone lintels are placed, just above the height of the stone courses. In the reveals above these a natural stone keystone is applied.
Against the left side facade the shop is built as a single-storey block under a flat roof. The rear facade of the shop lies against the house, the left side facade against the new building on the site of the former factory. In both facades a broad shop window with three arched fanlights is placed, the fanlights are filled with leaded glass. In the facade on the side of the Kerkplein two doors are situated, the door of the off-licence likewise being executed with narrow arched fanlight.
In the interior the layout and furnishings have been preserved in their original state. Behind the door extends a central hallway with marble wainscoting.
