Omschrijving

Description
Description ENSEMBLE OF KITCHEN GARDEN BUILDINGS (BARN, GARDEN WALLS, ORANGERY AND COLD FRAME) (4)
To the south of the main house Gooilust lies the former kitchen garden with associated buildings consisting of a garden wall, a barn and an orangery and cold frame. Already during the Blaauw period, a start had been made with arranging the kitchen garden as an arboretum. During and after the Second World War this was continued by S.G.A. Doorenbos and P.G. van Tienhoven. As a result, the layout directly by the garden walls now consists of an ornamental garden and some fruit trees. The southern part and around the pond consists of a walking park with many ornamental trees and shrubs of both indigenous and exotic origin. The garden wall consists of two walls along the north and west sides, which form a right angle. The north wall dates from 1823. The west wall is later, presumably early twentieth century. Both walls are ordinary straight single-leaf walls of sections between wall dams at regular intervals. In the corner of the garden walls lies the barn, also dating from the first decades of the 19th century. This is a simple stone working barn of one storey with a roof covered with tiles and a gabled roof. The former orangery adjoins to the east of the northern garden wall. This was built after 1828. It is a fairly tall rectangular building with the ventilation on the south side. Later, a semicircular and dome-covered extension was built against the side gables. These are probably former aviaries. The orangery is now used as a dwelling. In front of the orangery is a fairly large cold frame of nineteenth-century origin.
Valuation:
The ENSEMBLE OF KITCHEN GARDEN BUILDINGS (GARDEN WALLS, BARN, ORANGERY AND COLD FRAME) is of significance - because of its functional importance for the country estate; - because of the reasonably complete whole of the constituent parts of the ensemble.
