Omschrijving HISTORISCHE PARK EN TUINAANLEG (2)

Description
Description HISTORICAL PARK AND GARDEN LAYOUT (2)
In the layout of Gooilust, the historical layering of the design is very clearly evident. In the first place, there is the 17th-century reclamation layout with three elongated parcels and the (remains of) lanes on the boundary of these parcels. After the construction of the house in 1778, work initially began on a geometric layout. The house is situated approximately in the middle of a long sight line running the full depth of the plot. The entire rear part of this lane on the east side and part of the beginning on the west side is still present. The star forest with circular clearing to the north of the lane is also still present. Nothing remains of the geometric layout to the southwest of the house. For the remaining area, the land was divided into rectangular parcels for agricultural use. On a map from 1792, it can be seen that plans existed in the southeast corner for an addition to the layout in landscape style of this part. Some work was carried out here, such as the winding path on the eastern forest edge, but the substantial winding pond shown on this map is not now found. Also here was an elongated, irregularly shaped field, which would come to be named Paardenkamp. Following this first addition, work was subsequently undertaken under the direction of J.P. Zocher jr. (1816-1828) on the transformation of the formal garden section into a landscape layout. The focal point of this lies around the main house and is expressed particularly in the fine, elongated winding water/winding pond, in the interruption of the original straight lane into a winding lane and the creation of other winding paths to the south of the house. The aha on the northwest side of the gnu meadow also dates from this period. With this, moreover, a system of sight axes was created from and to the house as well as a few other sight axes, including over the northwestern meadow, the so-called Stork Meadow. Within the structure thus created, after the arrival of Blaauw, some further additions in detail were added. This concerns in the first place the planting of special plants, particularly to the south of the house and to the south of the kitchen garden. Somewhat later, the Valley and the New Work in the eastern part of the layout were realized. The various meadows also owe their names to this period, when gnus and bisons were found here, among other things.
Valuation:
The HISTORICAL PARK AND GARDEN LAYOUT is of significance - because of the clearly recognizable historical layering of the layout, which creates a great variety of landscape forms; - because of the relatively rare occurrence in the Netherlands of an aha in the layout; - because of the memory of the Blaauw collection (menagerie and arboretum) and what of this is still present on the country estate.
