The register's description

- vanwege de ontwikkelingsgeschiedenis;

- vanwege de integratie van bestaande lanen- en waterlopenstelsels in de landschappelijke aanleg;

- vanwege het formele, met beuken beplante lanenstelsel rond het voorplein/hoofdgebouw: de brede toegangslaan vanaf het hoofdgebouw in noordelijke richting en de smallere, oost-west geprojecteerde laan voor het huis langs;

- vanwege de deels ommuurde (moes)tuin/boomgaard met oude boomgroepen;

- vanwege de landschappelijke aanleg met slingervijver ten oosten van de hoofdas;

- vanwege de aanwezigheid van monumentale solitairen uit de 18de en 19de eeuw;

Description of component 2: HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate de Kiefskamp.

The estate de Kiefskamp is part of the characteristic Achterhoek farmstead or 'kampen' landscape. This distinctive landscape has been particularly well preserved in this area. The landscaped park layout around the Kiefskamp has a strongly agrarian character, in which woodland and agricultural land are defining elements. The landscaped park in its present appearance was presumably created at the instigation of the family Storm van 's-Gravesande. It is a good example of an early 19th-century landscaped park, in which the rural beauty of the surroundings was guiding for the design and was optimally utilized. Park and surrounding fields are crossed by straight avenues, hedgerows and ditches. The avenues presumably date from the time of construction of the house (around 1776) and almost all have a planting of beeches or oaks, in a single or double row. Some of the arable land around the Kiefskamp lie elevated in the landscape, the large field immediately behind the house is the most striking of these. The charming main building lies centrally in the layout. The semicircular forecourt is accessible from the north via a long, formal avenue lined with beeches, perpendicular to the house, dating from the time of the layout (around 1776). At the level of the Lindenseweg, on older topographic maps and on the cadastral map on either side of the driveway, a formal closure from the same period can be seen, this is now no longer recognizable as such in the landscape. To the west of the main axis lies a large pasture bordered by trees, with a round pond in it. To the east of this axis a neglected, landscaped, marshy layout around a watercourse excavated into a meandering pond. Both elements presumably belonged to an early-landscaped layout that must have been realized around 1800. Perpendicular to the main axis stands a second, narrower access/sight avenue with beech tree planting, also dating from the time of construction (around 1776). This east-west oriented axis runs just in front of the house and crosses the main axis at the level of the forecourt. Behind and beside the house lies an enclosed garden, which is screened from the formal, representative front by a long garden wall adjoining the front facade of the house. The garden consists largely of lawn with several fine old groups of trees, which presumably date back to the late 18th or early 19th century. The most characteristic is an old beech group, which is situated just slightly out of the centre axis of the house, on the edge of the garden and the field beyond. The western part of the garden has been in use as a vegetable garden and orchard since the late 18th century. On the east side there is an old, neglected park woodland, which as an early-landscaped element presumably dates from around 1800.

Valuation

The HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate de Kiefskamp is of general importance:

- because of its development history;

- because of the integration of existing avenue and watercourse systems in the landscaped layout;

- because of the formal avenue system lined with beeches around the forecourt/main building: the broad access avenue from the main building in a northern direction and the narrower avenue running east-west in front of the house;

- because of the partly walled (vegetable) garden/orchard with old groups of trees;

- because of the landscaped layout with meandering pond to the east of the main axis;

- because of the presence of monumental specimen trees from the 18th and 19th centuries;

- because of the functional-spatial coherence with the other components of the country estate.
