Inleiding
WOONHUIS uit het laatste kwart van de negentiende eeuw, opgetrokken in Eclectische stijl, gelegen aan een der vier 'kruisstraten', die het oude centrum van Udenhout vormen. Oorspronkelijk het woonhuis van 'Gouden Willem', burgemeesterszoon W. van Iersel, in 1924 weldoener van Huize Sint Vincentius. Het huis was als woonhuis 'De Kleine Strijdhoeve' in 1826 van het landgoed De Strijdhoeve afgesplitst en korte tijd vestiging van het internaat Sint Vincentius (RM 521138) en later rectorswoning.
Omschrijving
Eenlaags woonhuis, opgetrokken uit baksteen, onder mansardedak gedekt met rensleien. De voorgevel telt 8 traveeën en heeft een betegelde stoep, gepleisterde plint en een cassettenfries met houten gootlijst. Zesruits schuiframen met persiennes. De laatste travee links is blind. De rijk gedetailleerde Neo-Renaissance paneelvoordeur met smeedwerk heeft een gestucte omlijsting. Vier dakkapellen met T-ramen en frontons. De zijgevel aan de straathoek heeft beneden zesruits ramen en toont sporen van een gedichte opening. Erboven twee openslaande zesruits ramen en in de top een T-raam, alles voorzien van persiennes. De topgevel heeft windveren met geschulpte sierranden en in de top een makelaar met windwijzer. De linker zijgevel heeft een vernieuwde paneeldeur met bovenlicht en een getoogde poort, die schuil gaat achter een later voorgebouwde rechthoekige poort. Erboven een hijsopening met opgeklampte deur en later toegevoegde flankerende ramen. Topgevel met windveren met geschulpte sierranden en in de top een makelaar met windwijzer. In de lange achtergevel eenvoudige schuifvensters, een omlijste ingang, twee zesruits schuiframen, een vernieuwde deur en een rijk gedecoreerde houten serre. Muizetand onder de bakgoot. Aan de straatzijde een pijlpuntenhek op voetmuur en verder een gemetselde muur met siermetselwerk in gele baksteen.
Waardering
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als eerste vestigingsplaats van het belangrijke katholieke internaat Huize Sint Vincentius. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van de toepassing van motieven uit de neostijlen aan een landelijk bouwwerk, dat getuigt van de negentiende-eeuwse bloei van de Brabantse Meijerij. DWELLING HOUSE from the last quarter of the nineteenth century, erected in Eclectical style, situated on one of the four 'cross streets', which form the old centre of Udenhout. Originally the dwelling house of 'Gouden Willem', son of the burgomaster W. van Iersel, in 1924 benefactor of Huize Sint Vincentius. The house was split off as a dwelling house 'De Kleine Strijdhoeve' from the estate De Strijdhoeve in 1826 and for a short time housed the boarding school Sint Vincentius (RM 521138) and later served as the rector's residence.
Description
Single-storey dwelling house, erected in brick, under a mansard roof covered with slate tiles. The front facade comprises 8 bays and has a tiled step, rendered plinth and a cassette frieze with wooden gutter moulding. Six-pane sash windows with blinds. The last bay on the left is blind. The richly detailed Neo-Renaissance panelled front door with wrought ironwork has a stuccoed surround. Four roof dormers with T-windows and pediments. The side facade at the street corner has six-pane windows below and shows traces of a blocked opening. Above it two opening six-pane windows and at the top a T-window, all furnished with blinds. The gable has ornamental timber bracing with moulded decorative edges and at the top a weather vane with weathercock. The left side facade has a renewed panelled door with fanlight and an arched gateway, which is concealed behind a later pre-built rectangular gateway. In the long rear facade simple sash windows, a surrounded entrance, two six-pane sash windows, a renewed door and a richly decorated wooden conservatory. Brick bond under the gutter. Valuation
The dwelling house is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as the first location of the important Catholic boarding school Huize Sint Vincentius. It has architectural-historical value as an example of the application of motifs from neostyles to a rural building, which testifies to the nineteenth-century flourishing of the Brabantine Meijerij. It has ensemble value as part of the series of valuable farmhouses and dwellings on the settlement structure of the 'cross streets'. It has been preserved in good condition.
