Inleiding
De SLAGERIJ MET WINKEL EN BOVENWONING werd gebouwd in 1922 in Expressionistische stijl. Het pand werd ontworpen door Ide Bloem voor slager Alfons Ooms. Het pand vormt een onderdeel van een ononderbroken gevelwand in de binnenstad.
Omschrijving
Het tweelaagse pand heeft een haakse plattegrond en een dakschild met rode tuile-du-Nordpannen, waarachter een plat dak schuilgaat. De winkel en de woonkamer staan loodrecht op de as van de straat, de plaats en de rest van het pand zijn in de hoek van de afwijkende rooilijn gebouwd. De gevels zijn opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen boven de hardstenen pui. De voorgevel bestaat uit een breed middengedeelte en twee smalle hoektraveeën die deels vooruitspringen, die worden bekroond door een geknikte topgevel. Rechts bevindt zich de ingang van de winkel, links die van de bovenwoning. De winkelpui bestaat uit een groot raam met afgeschuinde hoek links en rechts de teakhouten deur, beide gevat tussen geornamenteerde pilasters. Het etalageraam heeft teakhouten kozijnen en rolluiken. De getoogde deur is voorzien van een glaspaneel en een bovenlicht. De pilasters dragen een brede hardstenen latei met in reliëfletters de tekst: "Varkensslagerij Jos. Ooms". Op de pilaster staat de signatuur: "Ide Bloem architect". Links hiervan bevindt zich de teakhouten paneeldeur van de bovenwoning, met geornamenteerde zandstenen latei en een achthoekig bovenlicht met een kleine roedenverdeling met glas-in-lood en een omlijsting van getrapt en getand siermetselwerk. Boven de winkelpui is de gevel symmetrisch uitgevoerd en wordt verticaal geleed door pilasters en erkers. De erkers hebben afgeschuinde zijden met een zandstenen omlijsting rondom de ramen, de dorpels zijn van hardsteen. De ramen hebben vierruits bovenlichten met glas-in-lood. Hierboven bevinden zich opengewerkte bakstenen balustrades, waarop een balkondeur uitkomt. De gevelvlakken boven de erkers worden beëindigd door een geknikte topgevel, voorzien van een zandstenen afdeklijst. Tussen de erkerramen bevinden zich twee schuiframen met zesruits bovenlicht, ook hier voorzien van glas-in-lood, een hardstenen dorpel en een zandstenen latei. Hierboven bevindt zich een veelhoekige zandstenen gevelsteen met het jaartal 1922. Dit middelste geveldeel wordt afgesloten door een houten gootlijst op geprofileerde klosjes. In het dakvlak zijn twee negenruits dakkapellen onder plat dak geplaatst. Hierboven bevindt zich tenslotte een driehoekig dakvenster. Het winkelinterieur is gaaf en compleet overgeleverd. Zowel de vloer als de wanden zijn voorzien van een betegeling in geometrisch patroon. De muren zijn voorzien van glanzend geglazuurde tegels tot het plafond. Bij het slagerijgedeelte horen de geëmailleerd gietijzeren opstanden met vleeshaken. Het plafond bestaat uit liggende melkglazen platen, geplaatst in een aluminium frame met gedecoreerde porseleinen hoekversterkingen. Het is gesigneerd: 'Wwe A. Bauer & Sohn, Düsseldorf'. Centraal bevindt zich een met guirlandes versierde porseleinen fitting voor de electrische lamp. Rondom dit centrale punt is het glas beschilderd met gestileerde plantenmotieven.
Waardering

The two-storey building has a right-angled plan and a roof with red tuile-du-Nord tiles, behind which a flat roof is concealed. The facades are constructed from machine-made brick above the hard stone shop front. The front facade consists of a broad central section and two narrow corner bays which partly project forward, crowned by a bent stepped gable. On the right is the entrance to the shop, on the left that to the upper dwelling. The shop front consists of a large window with bevelled corner on the left and right the teak wood door, both set between ornamented pilasters. The display window has teak wood frames and roller shutters. The arched door is provided with a glass panel and a fanlight. The pilasters support a broad hard stone lintel with relief lettering reading: "Pork Butchery Jos. Ooms". On the pilaster is the signature: "Ide Bloem architect". To the left of this is the teak wood panelled door to the upper dwelling, with an ornamented sandstone lintel and an octagonal fanlight with small glazing bars incorporating stained glass and a surround of stepped and toothed ornamental brickwork. Above the shop front the facade is executed symmetrically and is articulated vertically by pilasters and bay windows. The bay windows have bevelled sides with a sandstone surround around the windows, the sills are of hard stone. The windows have four-pane fanlights with stained glass. Above these are openwork brick balustrades, onto which a balcony door opens. The facade areas above the bay windows are terminated by a bent stepped gable, provided with a sandstone coping moulding. Between the bay windows are two sash windows with six-pane fanlight, also here provided with stained glass, a hard stone sill and a sandstone lintel. Above this is a multi-sided sandstone facade stone with the date 1922. This central facade section is closed off by a wooden gutter moulding on profiled knobs. In the roof plane two nine-pane dormer windows under flat roof have been placed. Above this is finally a triangular roof window. The shop interior is intact and completely preserved. Both the floor and the walls are provided with tiling in geometric pattern. The walls are provided with glazed tiles up to the ceiling. The butchery section includes enamelled cast-iron fittings with meat hooks. The ceiling consists of horizontal milk glass panels, placed in an aluminium frame with decorated porcelain corner reinforcements. It is signed: 'Wwe A. Bauer & Sohn, Düsseldorf'. Centrally is a porcelain fitting decorated with garlands for the electric lamp. Around this central point the glass is painted with stylised plant motifs.
