Inleiding

Introduction

RESIDENTIAL HOUSE built in 1928-1929 commissioned by Max Weil, director of the leerfabriek Oisterwijk. The design by architect O. Triebel shows the influence of Neue Sachlichkeit. The detached building stands at the corner of the street.

Description

Two-storey white rendered building on a rectangular plan under a flat roof. The building mass consists of two volumes placed against each other with the right-hand volume slightly lower. On the roof of the left section there is a structure under a low pitched roof. This is provided with a large overhang. Below this the structure steps back at the corners, the overhang remains resting on corner pillars. The structure is provided with a band of continuous horizontal windows. The building is partially basement.

In the front facade at the Prof. Dondersstraat the entrance section is placed in a narrow recessed part under a far-extending canopy. The far-extending canopy is supported on narrow iron columns. The original wooden semi-circular door has been replaced by a glazed entrance. In front of it, under the canopy, three stairs meet on a landing (one at the front and two at the sides). The stairs are provided with double handrails made of metal tubes. To the left of this are on the ground floor three standing windows with six-pane glazing bars. On the right side the ground floor also has a series of standing windows; on the first floor, to the right of the entrance section, a pair of large square windows with fine glazing bars are placed. In a recessed middle section in the left side facade lie several doors. Above this is a landing with a railing and a flagpole bracket. The balcony door extends into a tall standing window with glazing bars. Beside this small star-shaped grilles are installed.

On the ground floor, on either side of the recessed section, are narrow standing windows. On the first floor, as in the front facade, large square windows are installed. All windows have metal frames and are provided with fine glazing bars. In the current state the frames are painted red.

Several cellar hatches are visible just above ground level.

The rear facade is partly blank and has, at the height of the middle of the facade, a wide projecting chimney with a cap. Behind it on the ground floor two windows. Against the facade a new conservatory has been built. The right side facade has a number of standing windows as in the front facade. The rear corner is provided with terrace doors. On the first floor standing windows in the same design as on the ground floor are installed.

In the interior the layout has been largely maintained. In a large hall, to the left in the building, a staircase is placed against the left side facade (staircase has been modified). A new lift has also been installed in the hall. To the right of this rooms extend. The furnishings have been partially modernized. Broad black frames around the doors are still original. In the structure on the roof narrow rooms are made all around. The detached building is surrounded by a garden. The garden is separated from the street by a low concrete wall.

Assessment

The house is of general interest. It has cultural-historical value as an expression of socio-economic development, namely the establishment of villa parks and the typological development of the villa. It is of architectural-historical importance because of the particular style influences of Neue Sachlichkeit, the design and detailing, and it is also of importance as an example of the work of the architect. It is of importance because of the integrity of the exterior and because of the style forms and detailing it is extremely rare.
