Inleiding
Vier WONINGEN (type arbeiderswoning rug aan rug) dateren uit de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw gebouwd in Ambachtelijk Traditionele bouwtrant. De dubbele rij woningen liggen iets terug ten opzichte van de straat. Hierdoor is vóór de woningen aan het Hofplein een ruimte ontstaan waar een klein plantsoen is aangelegd. Rond de stoep aan het Hofplein bevinden zich drie ijzeren HEKKEN.
NB. De woningen hebben inwendig geen oorspronkelijke indeling of historische onderdelen. Het interieur is derhalve voor de bescherming van rijkswege van ondergeschikt belang.
Omschrijving
De dubbele rij woningen zijn gesitueerd op een rechthoekig grondvlak dat per rij door een aan elkaar evenwijdig zadeldak tussen topgevels en met zakgoot wordt gedekt met overwegend gesmoorde Hollandse pannen. De woningen bestaan uit één bouwlaag met een houten gootlijst die uitkragend is en uitgevoerd met houten gootklampen. Het dakschild aan het Hofplein wordt twee maal doorbroken door een dakkapel. De dakkapellen hebben draairamen, houten vleugelstukken, een licht uitkragende houten lijst en met zink afgewerkte wangen.
De asymmetrische gevels aan de straatzijden zijn volledig gepleisterd en witgeschilderd, met uitzondering van een zwarte plint. De zij- en achtergevels zijn gedeeltelijk gepleisterd en in schoon metselwerk opgetrokken deels met staafankers. De rechtgesloten vensters hebben zes-ruits schuiframen en sommige aan weerszijden een luik. De entrees bestaan uit houten kozijnen met hardstenen neuten en onderdorpels, paneeldeuren en tweedelige bovenlichten. De kopgevels aan de Achterstraat zijn uitgevoerd met gesneden windveren. De aanzetten van de goten zijn classicistisch gedetailleerd. In elk van de twee toppen bevinden zich tweedelige stolpramen. Links en rechts van het venster in de eerste bouwlaag van de rechter kopgevel bevindt zich een rondboogvenster. Deze vensters zijn voorzien van ijzeren traceringen.
Waardering
De arbeiderswoningen zijn van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische, architectuurhistorische en stedenbouwkundige waarde:
- als uitdrukking van de oorspronkelijke functie en type, namelijk arbeiderswoningen.
- als representatief voorbeeld van een bouwwijze met daarbij behorende sobere detaillering en eenvoudig materiaalgebruik.

Introduction
Four DWELLINGS (type workers' housing back-to-back) dating from the second half of the nineteenth century built in Craftsman Traditional building style. The double row of dwellings are set back somewhat from the street. This has created a space in front of the dwellings at the Hofplein where a small green space has been laid out. Around the pavement at the Hofplein there are three iron FENCES.
NB. The dwellings have no original internal layout or historical components. The interior is therefore of subsidiary importance for national monument protection.
Description
The double row of dwellings are situated on a rectangular ground plan that per row is covered by a gabled roof between end gables running parallel to each other and with a valley gutter, covered with predominantly laid-flat Dutch tiles. The dwellings consist of one storey with a wooden cornice that projects and is executed with wooden gutter clamps. The roof at the Hofplein is broken twice by a dormer window. The dormers have pivot windows, wooden wing pieces, a slightly projecting wooden moulding and zinc-finished cheeks.
The asymmetrical facades on the street sides are fully rendered and whitewashed, with the exception of a black plinth. The side and rear facades are partly rendered and built in fair-faced brickwork partly with rod anchors. The flush windows have six-pane sash windows and some on both sides a shutter. The entrances consist of wooden frames with stone thresholds and under-sills, panel doors and two-part fanlights. The end gables on the Achterstraat are executed with cut wind braces. The springing of the gutters are detailed in classical style. In each of the two gables there are two-part fixed lights. To the left and right of the window in the first storey of the right end gable there is a rounded-arch window. These windows are provided with iron tracery.
Valuation
The workers' dwellings are of general importance because of their cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban design value:
- as an expression of the original function and type, namely workers' dwellings.
- as a representative example of a building method with associated sober detailing and simple material use.
- because of the location in the protected townscape of Vianen and the landmark position at the Hofplein.
- because of the reasonable degree of integrity in main form, detailing and material use in the exterior.
