Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
PARSONAGE belonging to the ecclesiastical complex at Opzoomerlaan in Hellevoetsluis, built in 1890 after a design by Rotterdam architect E.J. Margry. The parsonage is stylistically a hybrid of Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Gothic. The exterior of the parsonage is virtually unchanged, with the exception of the ground floor of the rear facade where the veranda has been removed and a broad window has been placed in the left part of the facade.
Description
The parsonage is constructed on an almost rectangular ground plan and has two storeys and an attic storey under a composite roof, consisting of a flattened hipped roof with two roof projections belonging to the projecting stepped gable of the front facade and the non-projecting stepped gable of the rear facade. The parsonage is partly cellared.
The grey brick facades are laid in English bond. The front facade stands above a sandstone plinth and is further articulated by sandstone drip mouldings and three rendered speckled courses per storey. In the front facade are straight-headed windows with T-sash windows under segmental arches. Brick ornamentation is applied in the spandrels. Additionally, in the stepped gable are a three-light window and a wooden panelled door with fanlight.
In the remaining facades are both windows with six-pane sash windows and windows without glazing bars in the sash windows.
The asymmetrical front facade is divided into a set-back facade section comprising three bays on the right and a projecting facade section with stepped gable on the left. Along the corners are full-height pilasters. In the projecting section are, one above the other, a small segmental arched basement window, two T-windows with sash windows and at the top a three-pane window. The latter window is placed on a brick herringbone arch frieze. The stepped gable is provided with shoulders and is crowned by a diagonally projecting roof pilaster. The coping is sandstone and is provided with smaller shoulders at the midpoint.
The set-back facade section has in the left bay the front door accessible via two quarter-round sandstone steps. On the second storey T-windows with sash window. In the remaining bays are T-windows with sash windows in both storeys. This facade section is likewise terminated by a herringbone arch frieze.
The asymmetrical rear facade is divided into a three-bay wide cornice-topped facade and a two-opening stepped gable, which is marked by two pilasters. Between these are in the first storey two six-pane windows, in the second storey the balcony doors have been replaced by a window with French balcony. In the stepped gable is a straight-headed window with sash window within a pointed arch-shaped recess.
The three left bays are likewise partly modified. In the two left bays a broad composite window has been placed. The rear door in the central bay is original. On the second storey are three windows.
The asymmetrical left side facade is provided with a brick plinth, pilasters on either side and a brick frieze under the wooden gutter line on corbels. To the left of centre are asymmetrically placed straight-headed sliding windows of varying sizes.
The asymmetrical right side facade adjoins the one-storey high connecting passage with flat roof.
