Inleiding
De over de rivier de Danne gelegen OPHAALBRUG uit 1891, is vervaardigd door de Koninklijke Nederlandse Grofsmederij te Leiden. Oorspronkelijk lag deze brug over de Angstel in de westelijke Kanaaldijk te Nieuwersluis. Na aankoop van de brug door de gemeente in 1950 is de brug is hier in 1960 geplaatst ter vervanging van een houten draaibrug. Later is de brug als voet/fietsbrug in gebruik genomen. Het riviertje de Danne maakte oorspronkelijk deel uit van de westelijk arm van de Vecht, de Aa. Sinds de aanleg van het Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal vormt het de verbinding tussen de Vecht en het kanaal. De landhoofden zijn uitgevoerd in ruw beton en zijn niet betrokken bij de bescherming van rijkswege. Ook het hekwerk langs de hoofden en de bitumen afdekking van de val vallen buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving
De ter plaatse van de Marijkestraat over de Danne te Breukelen gelegen ophaalbrug verbindt de Marijkestraat met de Stationsweg. De uit geklonken delen opgebouwde, wit geschilderde brug heeft een houten brugdek op zwart geschilderde gewalste liggers. De hameipoort is uitgevoerd met een ronde boog, die rust op consoles. In de opengewerkte sloof bevinden zich cirkelvormige sierelementen en een plaatje op de ligger met de naam van de fabrikant en het jaartal. De balans is uitgevoerd in een vakwerkconstructie. De stalen langsschoren, hangstangen en het handbedieningsmechanisme aan de noordoostzijde van de brug zijn zwart geschilderd. De leuningen van de val bestaan uit houten, horizontale balken.
