Inleiding.
Voormalig GEMEENTEHUIS, in 1938 in Traditionalistische vormen opgetrokken naar een ontwerp van de architect C. Roffelsen. In 1988 werd het pand verbouwd en aan de achterzijde uitgebreid. Hiervoor moest een brandweerhuis met torentje wijken. Bij de herindeling in 1994 is Nistelrode bij de gemeente Bernheze gekomen. Hierbij verloor het pand grotendeels zijn eigenlijke functie, het is nu nog in gebruik als gemeentesecretarie en kantoorpand.
Het pand is zeer markant gelegen aan de zuidzijde van het raadhuisplein, de oude marktplaats van Nistelrode.
Omschrijving.
Tweelaags gebouw op rechthoekige grondslag met gevels van machinale baksteen in schoon metselwerk onder een met verbeterde Hollandse pannen gedekt, geknikt zadeldak. De nokas loopt evenwijdig aan de voorgevel. In het pand worden historische motieven uit verschillende stijlperiodes met elkaar gecombineerd. De hoofdopbouw met topgevels doet zeer traditioneel aan evenals de recht gesloten vensters met achttienruits houten ramen. De topgevels hebben afdeklijsten van grofkorrelig beton. De indeling van de uit vijf traveeën bestaande voorgevel is symmetrisch. De ingang die via een lage bakstenen verhoging bereikbaar is heeft een pilasteromlijsting met een houten frontonbekroning die met zink is afgewerkt. In het tympaan is het polychrome wapen van de voormalige gemeente Nistelrode afgebeeld. Rechts van de ingang is een gedenksteen geplaatst die de eerste steen legging door burgemeester W.M.H. van Hout van Nistelrode in 1938 memoreert. Rondom zijn zware smeedijzeren steekankers voor de verdiepingsbalklaag aangebracht. Er is gebruik gemaakt van natuursteen bij de kraagstenen onder de iets uitkragende aanzetten van de topgevels en de afdeklaag daarvan. De topgevels worden elk bekroond door een gemetselde schoorsteen. In het dak bevindt zich aan de voorgevel een kleine dakkapel onder een met pannen gedekt schilddakje. Centraal in de nok van het dak is een markant klokkentorentje geplaatst onder een ui-bekroning. De zijgevels hebben een vrijwel identieke detaillering als de voorgevel al variëren de grootte van de vensters en en raamvormen hier meer. Het pand heeft twee eenlaags dwarsvleugels onder zadeldaken met verbeterde Hollandse pannen. De westelijke is nog in gebruik als politiepost. Deze heeft een met een rondboog getoogde ingang met een opgeklampte deur met tralies. De overige detaillering is overeenkomstig de hoofdmassa. Aan de achterzijde gaat het pand over in de aanbouw uit 1988.
Ondanks de functiewijziging is het voormalige gemeentehuis in indeling en detaillering nog goed bewaard gebleven. Via een tochtportaal met deuren met glas-in-lood decoratie krijgt men toegang tot de centrale hal. Aan de linkerzijde bevinden zich nog de voormalige gemeenteloketten. In de hal, onder de trap, bevindt zich een voormalige archiefkelder, later BB-kelder met ijzeren deur. Via de trap met smeedijzeren hekwerk en gepolijste hardstenen treden bereikt men de verdieping met aan de noordzijde over de lengte-as van het gebouw de voormalige raadszaal. Deze heeft een houten vloer en lambrisering. Verder zijn ook de vier fraai gedetailleerde smeedijzeren luchters bewaard gebleven. In het trappenhuis zijn twee, door een hardstenen kalf gekoppelde, vensters met gekleurd glas-in-lood aangebracht met opschriften Noord-Brabant, Nistelrode. Op de verdieping bevinden zich tevens nog twee kleine glas-in-lood-paneeltjes met daarop voorstellingen van houtbewerkingsinstrumenten en landbouwwerktuigen.
Het pand wordt geflankeerd door twee hoge beuken (Juliana- en Bernardbomen).
Waardering.
Het voormalige gemeentehuis van Nistelrode is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarden die het heeft als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en een bestuurlijke ontwikkeling. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarden vanwege de gaaf bewaarde en voor gemeentehuizen uit die tijd zo typerende traditionalistische vormgeving en de verzorgde detaillering. Het is van belang vanwege de plaats die het inneemt in het oeuvre van de architect C. Roffelsen.

Former TOWN HALL, erected in 1938 in Traditionalist forms according to a design by architect C. Roffelsen. In 1988 the property was renovated and extended at the rear. Two-storey building on a rectangular foundation with facades of machine-made brick in fair-faced brickwork under a gabled roof covered with improved Dutch tiles with a kink. The main structure with top gables is very traditional in character as are the rectangular windows with eighteen-pane wooden windows. The top gables have coping strings of coarse-grained concrete. The layout of the front facade consisting of five bays is symmetrical. The entrance, which is accessible via a low brick elevation, has a pilaster framing with a wooden pediment crown finished with zinc. In the tympanum is depicted the polychrome coat of arms of the former municipality of Nistelrode. To the right of the entrance a commemorative stone has been placed which commemorates the foundation stone laying by mayor W.M.H. van Hout of Nistelrode in 1938. Around it heavy wrought-iron tie-anchors have been applied for the floor beam layer. Natural stone has been used for the corbels under the slightly projecting bases of the top gables and the coping above them. The top gables are each crowned by a brick chimney. In the roof at the front facade there is a small dormer under a hipped roof covered with tiles. Centrally in the ridge of the roof a prominent bell tower has been placed with an onion-shaped crown. The side facades have virtually identical detailing as the front facade although the size of the windows and window forms here vary more. The property has two single-storey transverse wings under gabled roofs with improved Dutch tiles. The western one is still in use as a police station. This has a rounded-arch arched entrance with an attached barred door. The remaining detailing is consistent with the main body. At the rear the property transitions into the extension from 1988.
Despite the change of function the former town hall has been well preserved in layout and detailing. Via a draught vestibule with doors with stained glass decoration you gain access to the central hall. On the left side are still the former municipal counters. In the hall, under the stairs, is a former records cellar, later civil defence cellar with iron door. Via the stairs with wrought-iron railings and polished hard stone steps you reach the upper floor with on the north side along the length-axis of the building the former council chamber. This has a wooden floor and wood panelling. Furthermore the four beautifully detailed wrought-iron chandeliers have also been preserved. In the stairwell two windows linked by a hard stone lintel have been installed with coloured stained glass with inscriptions North Brabant, Nistelrode. On the upper floor there are also two small stained glass panels with depictions of woodworking tools and agricultural implements.
The property is flanked by two tall beeches (Juliana and Bernard trees).
Valuation.
The former town hall of Nistelrode is of general importance because of the cultural-historical values it has as a distinctive expression of social-economic and administrative development. It has architectural-historical values because of the well-preserved traditionalist design typical for town halls from that period and the careful detailing. It is important because of the place it occupies in the oeuvre of architect C. Roffelsen.
The former town hall has ensemble values because of its prominent location on the market square due to the structural visual relationship with the old village centre of Nistelrode.
