Inleiding
Mouterij "Limburgia" is in 1877 als caramel-dextrinefabriek gebouwd. Twee jaar later werd in hetzelfde gebouw kunstboter gefabriceerd.
Het geïncorporeerde woonhuis (west) dateert naar verluidt uit 1883. In het jaar 1905 vestigde Louis Beltjens na verbouwing een mouterij in hetzelfde pand. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog diende de mouterij als opslagplaats. In het laatste oorlogsjaar verbrandde de houten eesttoren. Architect A.J.N. Boosten voorzag in 1947 in een bakstenen vervanger. In 1953 zijn een opslagruimte en productieloods gebouwd (noord-oost).
Modernisering van het productieproces leidde in het begin van de jaren '60 van de twintigste eeuw tot ontmanteling van het verouderde vloermoutprincipe: men ging tot het zogeheten kastenprincipe over. Tot aan het einde van de jaren '60 vervulde het pand de functie van mouterij.
Omschrijving
De voormalige mouterij "Limburgia" ligt aan het spoorwegemplacement van Roermond in het vroegere Roermondse Veld en telt drie parallelle bouwblokken die tezamen een vierkante plattegrond opleveren. Overhoeks, tegen de noordoostzijde, zijn tegen dit vierkant twee parallelle bouwblokken opgetrokken waaruit een kloeke, vlakgedekte eesttoren met schoorsteen oprijst waarop een gek is geplaatst. Het gehele complex telt zeven bouwvolumes en is gebouwd in rode baksteen en wordt gedekt met zadeldaken, platte daken en een geknikte kap. Het overgrote deel van deur- en vensteropeningen is dichtgemetseld; kozijn- en raamhout ontbreken vrijwel geheel. Inwendig is de voormalige mouterij ontmanteld.
Waardering
De mouterij Limburgia is van belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een economische, technische en typologiche ontwikkeling en bezit industrieel- archeologische waarde. Ensemblewaarde ontleent het complex aan de situering binnen de spoorzone met behalve de mouterij, het vml. BACO-gebouwencomplex, de beschermde spoorwegwatertoren en overige spoorinfrastructuur.
Het gebied als geheel is van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van dit deel van Roermond. De voormalige mouterij Limburgia bezit tenslotte architectuurhistorische, bouwtechnische, typologische en functionele zeldzaamheidwaarde.

Introduction
Malthouse "Limburgia" was built in 1877 as a caramel-dextrine factory. Two years later artificial butter was manufactured in the same building.

Description
The former malthouse "Limburgia" is situated at the railway depot of Roermond in the former Roermondse Veld and comprises three parallel building blocks which together form a square ground plan. At right angles, against the north-east side, two parallel building blocks have been erected against this square, from which a sturdy, flat-roofed kiln tower with chimney rises, on which a weathercock has been placed. The entire complex comprises seven building volumes and is built in red brick and is covered with gabled roofs, flat roofs and a angled roof. The vast majority of door and window openings are bricked up; frame and window wood are almost entirely absent. Internally the former malthouse has been dismantled.
Valuation
The malthouse Limburgia is of importance as a distinctive expression of an economic, technical and typological development and possesses industrial-archaeological value. The complex derives ensemble value from its location within the railway zone with, in addition to the malthouse, the former BACO building complex, the protected railway water tower and other railway infrastructure.
