Inleiding
De WINKEL en POORT met BOVENWONINGEN zijn gelegen tussen de Hamstraat en de Abdijhof, het voormalige kazerneterrein in het centrum van Roermond. De panden zijn gebouwd in 1928 in traditionele stijl in opdracht van dhr Teuwsen. In 1951 zijn de panden hersteld van oorlogsschade.
Omschrijving
Het gebouw heeft een hoofdzakelijk rechthoekige plattegrond met aan de Hamstraat diverse schuingeplaatste gevelvlakken in drie bouwlagen onder een rechthoekig zadeldak met blauwe en rode muldenpannen en enkele dakkapellen en heeft een stand van baksteen in kruisverband. De poort heeft hoofdzakelijk spitse, geknikte bogen op betonkolommen en uitstulpende plint. In de gevels bevinden zich rechthoekige houten kozijnen, grotendeels met bovenlicht boven gebakken dorpelstenen en onder geprofileerde baksteen rollagen.
De GEVEL aan de HAMSTRAAT is in de eerste laag gepleisterd en heeft links een teruggelegen deur en een groot etalagevenster onder schuin toelopend bovenlicht met verticale roeden. De entree naar de winkel ligt in een schuin gevelvlak eveneens onder een latei en een schuin toelopend bovenlicht. Rechts van de winkel bevindt zich de poort met drie bogen, waarvan de middelste breder is. Tussen de bogen bevinden zich schuin toelopende consoles ter ondersteuning van de bovenwoning. Links onder de poort bevindt zich nog een etalagevensters. De tweede en derde bouwlaag hebben een optrek in baksteen met identieke vensters, afwisselend drie- en tweedelig met en zonder bovenlicht. Vanaf de entree van de winkel tot rechts van de poort hebben deze bouwlagen symmetrisch inspringende gevelvlakken onder een rechthoekig dakvlak.
De GEVEL aan de ABDIJHOF heeft een identiek poort, waarboven een gevelsteen met "1928" en twee baksteen lisenen. Rechts van de poort bevinden zich volumes van één laag onder platte daken met drie kleine vensters boven de entree met luifel, naar de woning boven de poort. Rechts hiervan een klein venster en entree, een driedelig venster en dubbele grote deuren onder een strook kleine bovenlichten. Achter deze volumes bevindt zich een kleine gedeeltelijk overdekte binnenplaats met witgeschilderde muren.
In de tweede en derde laag bevinden zich eveneens identieke vensters, twee- en driedelige vensters met en zonder bovenlicht.
De STRUCTUUR van de INTERIEUREN van beide bovenwoningen is in hoge mate in tact hetgeen blijkt uit de situering van gang, trappenhuis en kamers.
Waardering
De WINKEL, BOVENWONING en POORT tussen de Hamstraat en de Abdijhof bezitten cultuurhistorische waarden als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van winkels met bovenwoning tijdens het Interbellum. De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door het belang van het gebouw vanwege de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp en het materiaalgebruik.
Het pand bezit ensemblewaarden vanwege de situering als randbebouwing met poort aan en naar de Hamstraat en de Abdijhof, als invulling van het voormalige kazerneterrein in het centrum van de stad, en is daarmee verbonden met de ontwikkeling van Roermond en is vanwege de locatie tegenover de voormalige rectoraat aan de Abdijhof, eveneens met poort, van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van de stad. The SHOP and GATEWAY with FLATS ABOVE are located between the Hamstraat and the Abdijhof, the former barracks site in the centre of Roermond. The buildings were constructed in 1928 in traditional style on behalf of Mr Teuwsen. In 1951 the buildings were repaired for war damage.
Description
The building has a primarily rectangular floor plan with at the Hamstraat various angled facade sections in three storeys under a rectangular gabled roof with blue and red channel tiles and several roof dormers and is built in brickwork in English bond. The gateway has primarily pointed, bent arches on concrete columns and projecting plinth. In the facades are rectangular wooden windows, mostly with fanlights above fired threshold stones and beneath profiled brick string courses.
The FACADE at the HAMSTRAAT is plastered on the first storey and has on the left a recessed door and a large shop window under sloping fanlight with vertical glazing bars. The entrance to the shop is located in a sloping facade section likewise under a lintel and a sloping fanlight. To the right of the shop is the gateway with three arches, of which the central one is wider. Between the arches are sloping consoles supporting the flat above. To the left below the gateway is another shop window. The second and third storeys have a brick build-up with identical windows, alternating three- and two-part with and without fanlight. From the shop entrance to the right of the gateway these storeys have symmetrically recessed facade sections under a rectangular roof section.
The FACADE at the ABDIJHOF has an identical gateway, above which is a stone panel with "1928" and two brick pilasters. To the right of the gateway are volumes of one storey under flat roofs with three small windows above the entrance with canopy, towards the flat above the gateway. To the right of this a small window and entrance, a three-part window and double large doors under a band of small fanlights. Behind these volumes is a small partially covered courtyard with whitewashed walls.
In the second and third storeys are likewise identical windows, two- and three-part windows with and without fanlight.
