Inleiding
WINKELS met BOVENWONINGEN zijn gelegen in de gesloten straatwand van de Hamstraat. De panden zijn gebouwd in Traditionele stijl met invloeden van Jugendstil, XXa naar ontwerp van architect Fr.
Dupont uit Roermond. In 1959 is de rechter dakkapel vernieuwd en in 1988 is de winkel en de pui aan de Hamstraat 22 aangepast.
Omschrijving
De WINKELS met BOVENWONINGEN hebben hoofdzakelijk rechthoekige plattegronden in drie en vier bouwlagen onder een plat dak en dakschild met blauwe muldenpannen. Het panden heeft een opstand van baksteen in kruisverband met vensters met hoofdzakelijk rechthoekige houten vensters.
De VOORGEVEL heeft in de eerste laag een hardstenen plint, waarboven pilasters met cannelures. Een etalagevenster met houten kozijn en winkeldeur met glas en drie panelen met cirkel, drie verticale lijnen, waaronder drie punten. Etalagevenster en winkeldeur hebben bovenlichten met gekleurd glas-in-lood met bladerenmotief. De tweede en derde laag hebben speklagen en cordonlijsten. Hier bevinden zich een dubbel venster en een balkondeur, beide met zijlichten en bovenlichten met roedeverdeling in witgeschilderde hardstenen lijst met hoefijzervormige profiel. Voor de dubbele deur ligt een driezijdig balkon met sierlijk smeedijzeren hekwerk met waaiermotief. Tussen venster en deur bevindt zich een beeld in een nis eveneens in hardstenen lijst met gekruld hoefijzerprofiel, waaronder twee bloemen. Onder de nis bevindt zich een rechthoekige nis met paneel met de tekst "Madonna van de rozenkransput", op een decoratieve console met motief van drie bollen op samenkomende stelen, op een console met cannelures en drie vierkante bloemen. In de derde laag bevinden zich vier dubbele vensters met bovenlicht in halve hardstenen lijsten met hoefijzermotief met sluitsteen en bloemen, boven een gepleisterde borstwering. Boven deze vensters zijn vlechtingen in geprofileerde lijsten. Het linkerpand heeft een dakkapel met twee vensters in hoefijzerlijst met een sluitsteen met hoofd.
Links van dit pand wordt een baksteen liseen beëindigd met een draak en rechts met een hoofd. Het rechterpand heeft op de rechterliseen eveneens een draak.
De ACHTERGEVEL bestaat uit diverse volumes tot vier bouwlagen onder platte daken en heeft originele dubbele houten kozijnen met getoogde bovenlichten.
De STRUCTUUR van het INTERIEUR van beide panden is in hoge mate in tact, behalve de winkel aan de Hamstraat 22.
WAARDEVOLLE INTERIEURONDERDELEN zijn ondermeer de originele trappenhuizen, de plafondornamenten met engelen en blad- en bloemmotief. De kleine tussenwanden met gebogen roede en geslepen glas en gekleurd glas-in-lood met pauw en drie bollen op gebogen steel in rood en groen.
Waardering
De WINKELS MET BOVENWONINGEN bezitten cultuurhistorische waarden door het belang van het object als bijzondere uitdrukking van de typologische ontwikkeling van winkel met bovenwoningen aan het begin van de twintigste eeuw. SHOPS WITH DWELLINGS ABOVE are located in the enclosed street frontage of the Hamstraat. The buildings were constructed in Traditional style with influences of Art Nouveau, first half of the 20th century, according to designs by architect Fr. Dupont from Roermond. In 1959 the right roof dormer was renewed and in 1988 the shop and shop front at Hamstraat 22 were adapted.
Description
The SHOPS WITH DWELLINGS ABOVE have mainly rectangular floor plans in three and four storeys beneath a flat roof and roof covering with blue curved pantiles. The buildings have a facade of brickwork in English bond with windows consisting mainly of rectangular wooden windows.
The FRONT FACADE has in the first storey a hard stone plinth, above which pilasters with fluting. A display window with wooden frame and shop door with glass and three panels with circle, three vertical lines, below which three points. Display window and shop door have fanlights with coloured leaded glass with leaf motif. The second and third storeys have ashlar courses and string courses. Here there are a double window and a balcony door, both with side lights and fanlights with glazing bars in white-painted hard stone frame with horseshoe-shaped profile. In front of the double door is a three-sided balcony with ornate wrought-iron railings with fan motif. Between window and door is a sculptured figure in a niche likewise in hard stone frame with curled horseshoe profile, below which two flowers. Below the niche is a rectangular niche with panel bearing the text "Madonna van de rozenkransput", on a decorative console with motif of three spheres on converging stems, on a console with fluting and three square flowers. In the third storey are four double windows with fanlight in half hard stone frames with horseshoe motif with keystone and flowers, above a rendered breast wall. Above these windows are lattice patterns in moulded frames. The left building has a roof dormer with two windows in horseshoe frame with a keystone with head.
To the left of this building a brick pilaster is terminated with a dragon and to the right with a head. The right building has likewise a dragon on the right pilaster.
The REAR FACADE consists of various volumes up to four storeys beneath flat roofs and has original double wooden frames with arched fanlights.
The STRUCTURE of the INTERIOR of both buildings is largely intact, except for the shop at Hamstraat 22.
VALUABLE INTERIOR COMPONENTS include amongst others the original staircases, the ceiling ornaments with angels and leaf and flower motif. The small partition walls with curved glazing bars and cut glass and coloured leaded glass with peacock and three spheres on curved stem in red and green.
Valuation
The SHOPS WITH DWELLINGS ABOVE possess cultural-historical values through their significance as a distinctive expression of the typological development of shop with dwelling above at the beginning of the twentieth century.
