The register's description

Inleiding.

Introduction.

The former PARSONAGE in Traditional-artisanal style with Neo-gothic elements is situated outside the centre of Sint-Oedenrode, in the heart of the hamlet Eerschot, opposite the Medieval church and along a dead arm of the Dommel. The original church path runs directly along the north facade of the property. Although its present appearance dates from the third quarter of the nineteenth century, the property has an older core. A dwelling stood on this spot before 1300, which was known by the name 'House by the water'. In 1510 it was given a function as a parsonage and from 1648 to 1741 it served as a dwelling for the Reformed minister. Subsequently it came into private hands and was given the name 'The old parsonage'.

Description.

The single-storey PARSONAGE under a gabled roof with half-hipped rear is built on a rectangular plan and constructed of hand-moulded brick. The top gable at the front is solid and the same applies to the truncated top gable at the rear. The eave ends in crenellations, behind which the rain gutter is situated. The roof is covered with newly repaired Dutch tiles. The facades are plastered and painted white and edged with roughly stuccoed borders. The straight-sided windows in the front facade are provided with stuccoed eyebrows. The straight-sided wooden panelled door has a surround plastered in blocks. The windows in the front facade are provided with six-pane sash windows and louvre shutters. On the upper floor two windows are installed, filled with four-pane sash windows. The attic floor has a small circular window, crowned by a white stuccoed surround and a horseshoe-shaped plaster decoration beneath it.

Around 1970 alterations were made to the interior, whereby a new floor was poured, cavity walls were installed, the cellar was deepened and the layout on the upper floor was altered. The layout on the ground floor remained unaltered. Remarkable are the spacious hall, the central corridor and the best bedroom. The wooden roof trusses are connected with wooden pegs. On one of the trusses the date "1461" is inscribed.

The property has a single-storey extension on the rear under a flat roof. Behind this is a single-storey annex situated, under a gabled roof with half-hipped end and covered with newly repaired Dutch tiles. This annex is plastered in a similar manner to the dwelling. A loading hatch is installed in the top gable on the rear.

Valuation.

The former parsonage is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value because of the occupation history, which has resulted in a series of building phases, of which valuable components, such as the wooden roof structure, have been preserved. It has architectural-historical value because of the Neo-gothic elements, in particular the crenellations. It has ensemble value because of the connection with the hamlet Eerschot, the opposite church and the church path running along it, as well as because of the location along a dead arm of the Dommel. It has remained sufficiently well preserved and is rare as an example of a Neo-gothic dwelling with crenellations.
