Inleiding.

Introduction.

The DWELLING WITH ADJOINING COACH HOUSE dating from around 1850 in Eclectic style is located just across the Dommel, at the beginning of the old centre of Sint-Oedenrode and on the access road to the market. It was originally known by the name 'den hof op den dijk'. The foundations and cellar of the building are presumed to date from the seventeenth century. In the early twentieth century a tobacco-cutting workshop was established in the extension, and the owner lived in the dwelling house. The recent eastern extension at the rear falls outside the protection.

Description.

The two-storey DWELLING with hipped roof, covered with improved Dutch tiles, is built on a rectangular ground plan and constructed of machine-made brick. The front facade is provided with a grooved plaster finish and has an apparently symmetrical layout; however, the part to the left of the door is larger than the right part. All windows in the front facade have a plastered, profiled moulding with rounded corners and a hood. The sills are of stone. The windows to the right of the front door consist of six-pane sash windows, to the left the windows consist of single panes under a single fanlight. On the first floor the windows consist of casement windows under a two-part fanlight. The centrally located panelled door under a rectangular fanlight with rounded corners has the same moulding as the windows. The stone sills of the ground floor extend across the full width of the facade. The stuccoed corner pilasters have a recessed detailing on the ground floor and a projecting moulding on the first floor. The stuccoed, lightly profiled plinth continues in the eastern side facade, which is otherwise executed in fair-faced brickwork. The same windows are found here as in the front facade. The window at the far left on the first floor was originally blind and was only later provided with a frame. A door is centrally placed in the facade. Ventilation openings are placed per bay in the lightly profiled and plastered cornice line.

In the western side facade a half window is placed on the ground floor and on the first floor. Against the rear facade a single-storey extension was placed in the 1970s under a flat roof, which falls outside the protection. The windows in this facade are all rectangular and each provided with a different frame. The two left windows of the first floor were originally blind. At the far right in this facade is a door under a rectangular fanlight. The original interior layout has been retained. Marble slabs have been laid in sand in the central hallway. The space to the right of the front door has wooden shutters on the interior of the windows and a wooden bench under the window. The ceiling of this space is provided with stucco work, depicting a hunting scene. In the back room there is still an original built-in bed. In the kitchen at the rear the original hearth is still present. From the kitchen access is gained to the presumed seventeenth-century cellar, with a barrel vault and ceramic floor tiles laid in sand. A pair of staircases leading to the first floor are still original. The layout of the first floor is unchanged. The roof trusses consist of wooden Dutch trusses with mortice and tenon joints.

The two-storey coach house built against the west facade, with hipped roof covered with improved Dutch tiles, is set half a bay deeper than the dwelling house. The front facade is plastered in the same manner as the dwelling house and has a double wooden door under a lightly arched segment arch. On the first floor two rectangular windows with six-pane frames are placed. The coach house has at the rear two single-storey extensions under a gabled roof and hipped roof, both covered with improved Dutch tiles. On the east side and in the building line of the front facade an access gate is placed, consisting of two stuccoed, octagonal pillars with iron railings.

Valuation.

The dwelling with coach house is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a good example of a dwelling with coach house of a village notable and because of the original components still present, in particular in the room to the right of the front door, the built-in bed and hearth and the cellar. It has architectural-historical value as an example of a dwelling house in Eclectic style. It has building-historical value because of the detailing of the facade. The object is relatively well preserved and reasonably rare.
